Mahimananda Mishra Family, Net Worth, and Biography In 2025
Mahimananda Mishra, born approximately 7 May 1953 in Cuttack, Odisha, is a self-made businessman from an affluent Odia family. He graduated in political science and also holds a law degree from MS Law College, Cuttack.
In the year 1978, he founded Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL), with 15 team members on board, as the start of a journey that would see him create a significant industrial group down the eastern coast of India.

Under his able leadership, OSL expanded beyond stevedoring activities into port services, cargo handling, warehousing, inland transport, freight forwarding, and customs agency work in numerous ports, including Paradip, Dhamra, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata, and Haldia. His business interests eventually grew to include mining, hospitality (Empires Hotels), education (DPS Kalinga), auto dealerships (OSL Motors), high-end fashion, real estate, travel services, healthcare, and FMCG distribution.
In 2025, Mishra's wealth is approximately ₹10,000 crore (USD 1.2 billion), with most of his wealth tied to the success of OSL and its businesses. His earlier valuations of his empire were around ₹12,000 crore, although older reports registered his empire's value sharply falling to ₹40 crores, which are largely considered to be incorrect.
Mishra has had several awards presented to him, for example, the Odisha Chief Minister's Best Entrepreneurship Award, Business Leader of the Year (2010) for his work with Gopalpur Port, Outstanding Cargo Handler by Paradip Port Trust (2008-09), and as a "Star Export House" from the Ministry of Commerce from 2009 - 2014.
In 2023, Mishra was recognised as a "Great Leader in Marine Business" and OSL as "Great Brand" at the Asia‑Africa Business & Social Forum in Dubai.
He received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Odisha's shipping industry in 2023 at the East Coast Maritime Forum.
Despite Mishra's widespread influence as a successful business leader, he has always carried with him a sense of controversy. He has undergone scrutiny through the legal system, including most notably a 2016 murder allegation relating to the death of a former shipping executive and, more recently, a 2022 CBI raid for bribery. His son Charchit Mishra was also arrested in a bribery incident at Paradip Port Trust.
Regardless of these controversies, Mishra's business leadership and contribution to transforming this region of Odisha's economy will ultimately leave an influential mark.
