Mammootty was born in Kerala India and has acted in several movies as well as being a successful film producer He is regarded as a legendary actor in Malayalam cinema. He has worked on more than 400 films in his five decades of career that run in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi and English films. He has received critical appreciation and several awards for his work; with three National Film Awards, seven Kerala State Film Awards and thirteen Filmfare Awards South to his credit. Later in 1998, he received the Indian government’s recognition in the form of Padma Shri in the field of art.
Early Life and Education
Mammootty was born into a Muslim middle-class family in Chempu, Keralahis father’s name was Ismail who was a businessman and his mother’s name was Fatima was a homemaker. He had his pre-university education at Sacred Heart College at Thevara; he then undertook the LL. A postgraduation B. degree in law from the well-known Government Law College in Ernakulam. His love for acting made him leave the practice of law after he had practised it for two years and joined the world of cinema.
Making a Start and Journey up the Ladder
Mammootty’s film debut role involved him not even receiving an on-screen credit in Anubhavangal Paalichakal which was released in 1971; however, he came to the forefront in 1979 when he starred in Devalokam. He came into the mainstream with critically appreciated work in the 1980s and the 1990s including New Delhi (1987) and Ambedkar (1994).
Personal Life and Legacy
Mammootty got married to Sulfath Kutty in the year 1979 and he has two kids, one of the sons being Dulquer Salmaan, an actor par excellence. Apart from his splendid acting career, Mammootty had been an example for social activities as well as an active contribution to the cause of Malayali culture.
