Manimegalai is an Indian television host and video jockey who has been active in the Tamil television industry for nearly 12 years. Since 2010, she has regularly hosted shows on Sun Network before transitioning to Star Vijay in 2019. She gained popularity for her boldness in expressing her views and speaking out against challenges.
She participated as a comali on "Cooku with Comali" while also hosting programs on Vijay TV.
Personal Life
Manimegalai was born in the Tiruppur district of Tamil Nadu to businessman Ramaayyappan and Jothimani. She has a younger sibling, Gunamani, who graduated in Visual Communications. Manimegalai studied in Coimbatore until the 3rd grade, after which her family moved to Chennai, where she continued her education at Shanthosh Vidyala Matriculation School. She completed her MBA with a dual specialization in HR and Finance from SRM University (Vadapalani Campus).
While in college, she began her career as a video jockey on Sun Music. In 2017, she met assistant choreographer Hussain Shaik Kadhar, and the couple married the same year.
Career
Television
Manimegalai made her debut as a Video Jockey on December 30, 2009, at the age of 17, hosting her first show called "Super Hits" on Sun Music. She went on to host live shows and reality shows on Sun Music, such as "Franka Sollatta," "Black," and "Kollywood Diaries."
Her career as a television anchor took off after she hosted several live shows and conducted celebrity interviews. In 2016, she received the Best Anchor award from the World Human Integration Council, presented by the then-Governor of Tamil Nadu, Dr. K. Rosaiah. Her fans affectionately dubbed her "Anchor Super Star."
In January 2019, Manimegalai left Sun Network after nine years to participate in the reality show "Mr. and Mrs. Chinnathirai" with her husband on Vijay Television. The couple secured 2nd runner-up and were praised for their performance in the finale. Following this, she hosted several special shows and a reality show on Vijay TV and participated in the cooking reality show "Cooku with Comali."
Public Shows/Events
Manimegalai also hosts other events such as college culturals, audio launches, and award functions. She hosted her first audio launch for the movie "Tik Tik Tik" in January 2018 and continued to host various other audio launches and success meets for Kollywood movies, including the success meet of the film '96.
She also takes part in comedic debate discussion shows, with her first such appearance on May 31, 2019.
Acting
Manimegalai was initially chosen for a role in the serial "Bharathi Kannamma" by director Praveen Bennet for the character of Venba, now played by Farina, which she declined. However, at the director's request, she made a single-shot appearance confronting the male lead's mother character.
YouTube
Manimegalai and Hussain launched their YouTube channel, "Hussain Manimegalai," on June 4, 2020. A short clip from one of their videos was shared on YouTube India's social media handles.
Within a year of its launch, the "Hussain Manimegalai" YouTube channel garnered over a million subscribers and more than 100 million views.
