Nikhil Kamath was born on 5th September 1986 in Shimoga, Karnataka. He and his brother Nithin Kamath are co-founders of Zerodha, the largest brokerage house in India. Nikhil quit school after completing 10th grade and began working at a call center when he was 17 to earn a living and then started investing in the stock market. Nikhil and Nithin started Zerodha in the year 2010 with the motive to take away all the trade barriers. They revamped the landscape of stock trading in India into something far more accessible and better suited to a much greater population by using a flat fee model and having an extremely user-friendly platform.
Besides Zerodha, two other ventures that Kamath has initiated are True Beacon, an asset management venture that focuses on high-net-worth clients, and Gruhas, where he works exclusively on prop-tech for real estate. He also started podcasting in 2023 called 'WTF is'. He invited public personalities as well as entrepreneurs to create and lead a conversation based on any topic of his choice. These contributions go further in the development of WTFund, India's first grant-based fund for startups that don't eat equity. Kamath's story has been one of continuous learning and a paramount business innovation sense.
With an estimated net worth of $3.07 billion, Kamath's achievement speaks for itself but, in his commitment to philanthropy, he remained grounded. In 2023, Kamath committed to donating 50 percent of his wealth toward philanthropic causes focused on climate change, education, and healthcare. It is based on this belief that giving back to society is the ultimate power for creating an impactful change.
Nikhil married Amanda Puravankara in 2019, but it was an extremely short marriage that ended in divorce. In the media, Kamath has also been notable due to his associations with many public personalities, among whom are former Miss World Manushi Chhillar and actress Rhea Chakraborty. He lives in a fabulous 7,000 sq. ft. house located in the luxury residential complex known as Kingfisher Towers, Bangalore.
Nikhil Kamath is also an entrepreneurial school dropout to billionaire rags-to-riches story. With entry barriers created in the traditional stock market and the financial integration of the system, he has made impacts on India's financial world. Philanthropic commitment is the underlining craving for creating positive action in society using his wealth, and the work after Zerodha exhibits forward thinking.
