Early Life and Education
Born in 1992, Ravi Kumar Sihag grew up in Vijayanagar, Sri Ganganagar district, Rajasthan. He has a farmer as his father, Ramkumar Sihag, and his mother, Vimala Devi, is a homemaker. Ravi was brought up in an agricultural environment, so he understood all the problems rural people face and the importance of good governance. He did his early schooling from Saraswati Vidya Mandir School of his village. Then he shifted to Anupgarh Sharda School and later to "New Senior Secondary School" at Vijayanagar. Showcasing his academic brilliance, Ravi attained 95% in his 10th and 97% in his 12th grade board exams. He studied Bachelor of Arts from Sharda College, Anupgarh, studying subjects such as Hindi, English Literature, and Economics.
UPSC Journey
Ravi’s aspiration to join the civil services led him to commence his preparation for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations in 2016. Despite financial constraints, his family supported his decision to move to Delhi for coaching. His journey was marked by perseverance:
• 2018: In his first attempt, Ravi secured an All India Rank (AIR) of 337 and was allocated the Indian Defence Accounts Service (IDAS).
• 2019: He bettered his rank to 317, which resulted in his assignment to the Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS).
• 2020: In spite of his hard work, he couldn't pass the Mains examination.
• 2021: Unfazed, Ravi earned a stunning AIR 18, which landed him a position with the elite IAS.
Optional Subject and Medium of Instruction
Facing challenges associated with his Hindi-medium background, Ravi chose Hindi Literature as his optional subject. This strategic decision allowed him to leverage his strengths and address the perceived disadvantages of non-English medium candidates. His success underscored that with dedication and the right strategy, language medium need not be a barrier in competitive examinations.

Personal Life
