During the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which saw the city under attack for days, he was in charge of Zone 1. Without access to modern weaponry and a bulletproof jacket, he and his bodyguard Amit went into the Taj Hotel. Reports of 400 to 500 people trapped inside.

In this operation, he was very brave, which earned him the President’s Police Medal (Shaurya Padak).
