Bollywood Blind Item: Actress Loses Several Projects

This actress has been going through a rough patch in her career. She was turning out to be a studio favorite, but then her luck seems to have changed. She was last seen in an action movie starring two big names - one a Bollywood superstar & the other a pan India superstar from South cinema. She barely had a 15-minute role in the movie. But for reasons unknown, she too was penalized by the studio boss. She has been sacked from an upcoming big budget action sequel which is yet to go on the floors. She has been replaced in another movie bankrolled by another top studio as well. As per a source, these developments have left her shaken. She has been feeling anxious about her future in Bollywood & has been sending feelers to big filmmakers. It doesn't help that her husband's movies too have been bombing at the box office. They both need a hit movie badly.

Bollywood filmmakers are a superstitious lot & also very patriarchal. The heroes are beyond reproach & the heroine is often blamed for the movie's failure despite them barely getting 15mins of screen time. The heroine is termed 'unlucky' if a big budget movie starring a male superstar flops. The direction, script, etc, are secondary. Conversely, many actresses who star in male driven movies that manage to succeed are termed 'lucky'. That explains why many talented actresses refuse to play second fiddle & star in movies starring male superstars.
