Top 10 Movies to Know about Hindu Mythology

Indian culture is well known all across the world for its richness and diversity. India has been the nation of spiritualism for ages and this has influenced indian cinemas as well. Not many but there are a few big-budget series, cinemas and indian mythology animated movies as films form a major part of people's social characterstics.

Here is a list of 10 Hindi devotional movies.

1. Mahabharat (1965)

I won’t narrate the complete story here, the Mahabharat is too well-known for that. Suffice to say that the film begins right in the middle of some action, without setting any preliminary background in place. At the court of the blind King Dhritrashtra in Hastinapur, the entire court is watching the two cousins Bheem and Suyodhan/Duryodhan engage in a wrestling match. Looking on are most of the rest of the people who’ll appear throughout the story. There’s the mother of the Pandavs, Kunti, Dhritrashtra’s wife, the mother of the Kauravs, Queen Gandhari, the patriarch Bheeshm ‘Pitamah’, and Dronacharya, the man who’s trained the Pandavs and the Kauravs in the martial arts.

2. Sampurna Ramayan (1961)

In Ayodhya there are festivities all over as the day has arrived when Raja Dashrath will be crowning his eldest son, Bhagwan Shri Ram, as the future King. But there is sorrow and anger in one part - that being with Rani Kaykayee - one of three wives of Raja Dashrath, who wants her son, Bharat, to be crowned King. Her laments and complaints make Dashrath give way, and she also makes him promise to banish Ramji from 14 years. Ramji accepts his step-mothers conditions, and sets out of Ayodha, with his wife, Seeta, and younger brother, Lakshman. Watch how the beginning of this journey is fated to bring the end of the tyrannical Raja Ravan, and his rule on Lanka.

3. Mahabali Hanuman (1981)

When childless Anjani prayed to Shiva to give her a son, he must have been listening because nine months and a visit from Marut, the God of Wind later, she delivers one, the young deity Hanuman. As a child Hanuman mischievously tried to swallow the sun, thinking it was a fruit. When he is smote for his unwitting trespass by Indra, king of the Gods, he lays lifeless, only to be resurrected and granted gifts by an assemblage of gods. These gifts along with his own virtues earn him the title of Mahabali, or The Mighty One. His life is the subject of this film, which focuses on both his childhood exploits and adult adventures.

4. Jai Santoshi Maa (1975)

Birajram intercedes when Satyavati  is set upon by a criminal. They soon marry, but their relationship is marked by various hardships, including an extended period of separation. Inspired by a Hindu folk story, the film depicts the earthly fallout of a duel between deities.
