13 Reasons Why had netflix users bingeing on the show thanks to it unique content. The show touched upon bullying, peer pressure, teenage life, unrequited love & rape. We can’t think of a single show which touched upon these topics like the way this show did. While the first season started off with the central character – Hannah Baker(Catherine Langford) committing suicide & her love interest Clay Jensen(Dylan Minnette) receiving the tapes recorded by Hannah before her death. The season ended with viewers being told that Hannah was in fact raped by Bryce Walker. That is what made Hannah commit suicide.
The second season starts off a few months after the events at the end of season 1.
Hannah’s mother has filed a case against her school. Several of Hannah’s classmates have been asked to appear in court. Justin is missing. Alex miraculously survived a suicide attempt, but he is now has a limp & has no recollection as to why he tried to kill himself. The rumor that Jessica & Bryce were dating has spread like wild fire, although we were told in season 1 that Bryce forced himself upon her. Bryce now has a new GF- Chloe, a new entrant on the show. Chloe is the head cheerleader. Clay & Skye Miller are now dating. But just when his relationship with Skye is about to get stronger he starts seeing the ghost of Hannah. Hannah exhorts Clay to not let Bryce get away with what he has done. Meanwhile all the students who have been asked to present themselves in court have been getting anonymous threats to stay silent. Will the students speak the truth in court? Why did Alex try to off himself? Will Bryce get punished for his actions? These are the storylines around which the season revolves. The first season was addictive owing to its gripping storyline, great acting by the characters & the unique subject. The audiences had huge expectations from the second season of the show & thankfully the makers don’t disappoint. Netflix has a rich history of cultivating franchisees of hit dramas. Netflix is the best platform for content in the drama genre & 13 Reasons Why franchise is proof of that. There are enough parallel storylines to keep the viewers intrigued & guessing till the end of the show. While you may think you know all the answers at the end of season 1, season 2 proves that there were a lot of things we weren’t told about. The makers continue to extract good performances from the cast in the second season as well.
Netflix leaves no room for error when it comes to show from the drama genre. There are no flaws in the second season of this hit teenage drama either.
We have no doubt that this show will gain a cult following. If you haven’t seen the first season yet, we urge you to give a watch soon & binge on the second season. We are eagerly awaiting the third season of the show!
