The Bollywood success mantra is rather complicated. It is sometimes difficult to comprehend which movies will become a hit in the box office and which one will flop. There are some of the famous biopics that failed to leave a significant mark in the Box office despite an original story and talented actors!

1. Mangal Pandey: The Rising– 2005

This Indian historical movie is a biopic of the Indian soldier Mangal Pandey. Mangal Pandey had played an important role in the first war of Indian independence in the year 1847. Aamir Khan and Rani Mukerji were seen in the lead role. Despite the amazing acting skills of Aamir Khan the movie failed to leave a lasting impression on the minds of the Indian audience. The movie had mixed reviews from the critics and is considered to be a Box Office failure.

2. Daddy– 2017

This movie was based on the biopic of the notorious gangster Arun Gawli. Arun Gawli is an underworld Don and is currently sixty-five years old. His nickname was Daddy and hence the movie was named after him. Arjun Rampal acted in the lead role. Despite having an original plot, the film Daddy failed to perform well at the box office.

3. Main Aur Charles– 2015

This movie was based on the life story of the killer Charles Sobhraj. He is a French thief and a fraudster of Indian and Vietnamese origin. He had committed many murders and was thus convicted in jail for a long time. Randeep Hooda was chosen for this movie for his brooding looks as Charles was also devilishly handsome. However, this movie did not perform well at the box office and was a flop.

4. Veerappan– 2016

This biopic by Ram Gopal Verma was based on the gangster Veerappan. This dacoit was famous for kidnapping the big politicians for a ransom amount. He was involved in abducting some famous personalities like actor Rajkumar and the former minister of Kannada N. Nagappa. Sandeep Bhardwaj acted in the lead role of Veerappan but the movie failed to cast its magic on the audiences.

5. Rakta Charitra– 2010

Is a biopic of gangster Parilata Ravindra, from Andra Pradesh who had committed many murders. He was also murdered later by the political rivals in 2005. This movie was released in two parts in Bollywood and Vivek Oberoi was seen in the lead role. Although Vivek had received several accolades for his amazing performance in the lead role, this movie failed to do well at the box office.

6. Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey– 2010

The Ashutosh Gorawiker directed biopic of Surya Sen failed to impress the audiences due to the lengthy plot.

7. Thackeray– 2019

The Abhijit Panse biopic titled Thackeray is based on the life story of Balasaheb Thackeray. Nawazuddin Siddique had acted well in this movie but the movie did not perform well at the Box office.

8. Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story– 2005

This biopic is directed by Akbar Khan and is based on the story of the Mughal Dynasty. This movie was released in 2005 and had Kabir Bedi, Sonya Jehan and Manisha Koirala, Arbaaz Khan and Pooja Batra in the lead roles. Despite being a multi-starer movie it became a flop.

9. Rang Rasiya– 2008

This is based on the story of the Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma who painted God in human form. He was considered one of the best artist of his era. His creations were unique as he erotically portrayed the mythological characters. The trailer of the biopic had created a lot of hype but the movie became a flop due to the late release.

10. Azhar– 2016

This movie which was directed by Tony D’Souza was based on the story of the former Indian team captain Mohammad Azharuddin. Emraan Hashmi was seen in the lead role of the movie. Many events were considered as fictitious in this movie by the critics. Also, this biopic had many subplots so audiences disliked the movie.

11. Sarbjit– 2016

Sarbjit was based on the biopic of Sarabjit Singh, who was wrongly accused of terrorism and spying and had spent twenty-two years in prison in Pakistan. This is considered as the best biopic by Randeep Hooda where the actor had gone through a tremendous metamorphosis of his body to fit into the skin of the character. Randeep had reportedly lost eighteen kgs in just twenty-eight days. Despite his sincere effort this film failed to become a hit as the scenes were too dramatic.

12. Hawaizaada– 2015

Hawaizaada was a biopic story of Indian inventor Shivkar Bapuji Talpade who has created a flying machine like Airplane before Wright brothers. Ayushmann Khurana was seen in the lead role. This movie too was not liked by the audience and became a flop.

13. 23rd March 1931: Shaheed– 2002

This biopic was based on the biopic of Indian freedom fighter Bhagat Singh. Like the other movies listed in this list, this biopic also failed to do well.

14. Anna– 2016

This movie was based on the life of the social activist Anna Hazare. However, the Indian audience did not find much interest in the movie.

15. Haseena Parkar– 2017

This biopic is based on Dawood’s sister Haseena. This crime thriller had Shraddha Kapoor in the lead cast. This film did not create much impact on the Indian audience and is considered to be a Box Office flop.
