Joint family makes a significant influence in a growing child. We all know that whatever we learn is the representation we see in our family and homes. And everyone has heard that joint families are the best. It is a beautiful institution for a person as one gets to listen and see so many ideas and believes under a single roof. We have seen in movies that joint families eats together, laughs together, and support each other during good and bad times.

In India, joint family is usually a large undivided family where members of more than one generation live together under one roof. The family is usually headed by the eldest member of the family and he has the responsibility of making decisions. They share a single kitchen.

Advantages of a joint family:

  1. Togetherness

In a joint family we get to grow up with cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents. All the childrens gets to connect with everyone and make close bonds.

  1. Shared Support Systems

Everyone in the family is the support system of each other. Working parents can leave their children at home as the families are the most trustworthy of all. They teach cooperation.

Disadvantages of a joint family:

  1. Lack of privacy

We are surrounded with people every time and so there is no privacy at home.

  1. Disagreement on finances

Contributions towards running the household  and how the expenses needs to managed is a major issue. The head controls and decides the finances but sometimes there are conflicts.
