Ram Setu and Thank God Open Weekend Box Office: Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgan gross Rs 50 crore in three days
Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra's Thank God ended up being the second choice to Akshay Kumar's Ram Setu during the Diwali 2022 weekend. Read detailed report.
Ram Setu, starring Akshay Kumar, was the audience's first choice during the Diwali 2022 weekend, earning around Rs 7.75 crore on the third day, bringing the total collection to around Rs 33.50 crore. The Abhishek Sharma-directed film had a rather slow weekend, and even after considering all the pros and cons, the film should have aimed for at least Rs 40 crore in three days at the box office.
What lies ahead for Ram Setu?
Ram Setu has done well in the mass belts, but the metros have hurt his theatrical prospects. While the festive flavour has pushed the film's business in mass markets, it hasn't really drawn in the audience in tier-one markets. The three national chains hope to earn Rs 2.75 crore on their third day, resulting in a 35% decrease in multiplexes. Fortunately, markets such as Gujarat, CI, and CP are holding up slightly better. There will be another drop in business on Friday, and it will be critical for Ram Setu to regain momentum on Saturday and Sunday in order to post a weekend total in excess of Rs 55 crore.
It would be a sign of hope for the filmmakers if the film reached the double-digit mark on Saturday or Sunday, as this would imply sustenance on weekdays. For the time being, it's all a waiting game, as a healthy trend would be required to reach a century by the end of its run. While the drop on days two and three is expected, the base level, i.e. the start, was on the lower side, requiring the film to put up better holds on the second and third day.
Deciphering the Thank God Box Office
Thank God has lost all momentum on the third day, with collections falling into the Rs 4 crore range on Thursday. The Indra Kumar-directed film had a poor opening weekend gross of Rs 17.25 crore, and there isn't much gas left in the tank going forward. Given the trend thus far, the entire and sole focus will now be on us to see if the Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra starrer can reach a half-century at the box office or remains below.
Despite the comic theme, Thank God hasn't exactly been on a roll. It's a middle-of-the-road film in which the creators didn't go all out on the humour or try to delve deeply into slice-of-life elements. The figures are best in some parts of Gujarat and Rajasthan, but that isn't saying much. The two films earned a total of Rs 50 crore over the weekend, which should have been in the region of Rs 65 crore in an ideal world of pessimistic expectations.
The holiday season also played no role in increasing Thank God's collections, indicating a lack of audience interest.
