Balraj Sahni's, performance in M.S. Sathyu's Garam Hava (1973) is considered one of the most classic role in Indian Cinema. Before Independence, Balraj lived with his family in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. He along with his wife Damyanti, joined Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore's Shantiniketan in West Bengal. He began his acting career with Indian People's Theatre Association. Damyanti died in the year 1947 when the elder son was only 8 years old. Balraj married gain in 1951. Intially, in the film industry he mocked for being too thin. He had an incredible dedication and passion towards his work. He died just a year after his daughter had died. He never overcam from that grief and held himself responsible for her demise.
