He meets other animals along the way, but more importantly, he meets kind and unkind people, whose treatment of him reflects the denatured world that we have created. With the ecstatic vision and fearlessness of a cinematic genius who seems to be just getting started, Skolimowski, who is now 84, created one of the few films that speak to life's most important questions. 2.Kantara

A 2022 Indian Kannada-language drama film about Hindu mythology is titled Kantara. Written, produced, and directed by Rishab Shetty under the Hombale Films banner. Shetty plays a Kambala champion who is at odds with Murali, an honourable forest officer, in the movie (played by Kishore). It involves Bhootha Kola and Kambala culture. Shiva is a rebel who defends his village and nature in a conflict between humans and nature. A death sparks a conflict between the evil forces and the villagers. 3. Celine Sciamma's "Petite Maman"

Sciamma's Lilliputian tour de force is a wittily modern fairy tale and an example of tasteful narrative economy. It is largely set in and around a house hidden away in the woods. Its endearing protagonist is a young girl who, along with a second new acquaintance, sets out on a modestly sized but exhilarating journey full of delights and enchantment. Our little heroine eventually finds herself on the greatest, most enigmatic adventure of all: love. (Hulu streaming.)

4. The Kashmir Files

A recent Bollywood film called The Kashmir Files, which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s. Vivek Agnihotri is the author and director of the 2022 Hindi-language drama film The Kashmir Files. The movie tells a made-up narrative was centred on the exodus of Hindu Kashmiris from Indian-administrated Kashmir in the 1990s. It portrays the exodus and the circumstances leading up to it as a genocide, which is widely regarded by scholars as false. According to the movie, there was a silent conspiracy to bury these facts.

5. ‘No Bears’ (Jafar Panahi)

Longtime Iranian government critic Panahi has been making movies for years while working under extremely difficult conditions, such as house arrest. He portrays himself in "No Bears" as Jafar Panahi, a filmmaker who has temporarily relocated to a small town while he remotely directs a film in nearby Turkey (possibly with some artistic licence). It's a challenging process and a powerful act of resistance. Panahi soars above imagined and terrifyingly real borders in this tale of place and displacement. (Available in theatres.)

6. DRISHYAM 2

The plot of DRISHYAM 2 centres on a troubled family. It is the year 2022. The sequel to "Drishyam," in which Vijay Salgaonkar (Devgn) successfully rescued his family from police custody, introduces a new twist with the case being reopened and Vijay confessing, but will he actually do what the movie is about? The remainder of the movie is based on what occurs next.

7. ‘The Eternal Daughter’ (Joanna Hogg)

In this exquisitely controlled, moving tale about memory and grief, a stunning Tilda Swinton portrays both a mother and her adult daughter. When the book begins, the two are travelling to an opulent estate for a getaway; however, their journey quickly turns seductively mysterious. Hogg and her brilliant actress transform what initially appears to be ordinary into something truly extraordinary with precision, subtle humour, and some sneaky cinematic chicanery. (In cinemas.)

8. "Happening" (Audrey Diwan)

"Happening," one of several potent new films that understand abortion as a fundamental right and an indicator of a culture's attitude toward women, is based on the memoir by Annie Ernaux, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature this year. Diwan makes it clear that abortion is a practical and necessary way for her heroine to secure self-sovereignty, a future, and a life rather than merely fodder for hand-wringing and political argument. She only has one option, and it is entirely up to her. (For rent on the majority of big platforms.)

9. ‘All the Beauty and the Bloodshed’ (Laura Poitras)

Nan Goldin is shown in the opening scene of Poitras's tough-minded, formally graceful portrait of the photographer, her work, and her activism. They are huddled together in front of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Soon, Goldin and her co-protesters will stage a die-in inside the institution, one of many such actions they will take against organisations that have accepted donations from Sackler family members, whose company Purdue Pharma created the opioid painkiller OxyContin. Poitras goes on to demonstrate that Goldin's protest is just the most recent episode for an artist who finds beauty in violence. (In cinemas.)

10. "Decision to Leave" (Park Chan-wook)

Its delirious parody of "Vertigo," Alfred Hitchcock's wrenching 1958 drama about a male detective's obsession with a mystery woman, is one of the film's dizzying pleasures. A man and a woman are present, along with love and betrayal, once more. However, as "Decision to Leave" progresses and finds its own unique, kinked groove, the emotional centre of the film gradually shifts from the obsessive lover to the subject of his unwavering, imperceptible gaze, and Park's clever homage becomes a moving rejoinder.
