Bollywood heartthrob Varun Dhawan, who made his Pan-India debut with his recent horror comedy ‘Bhediya’, unfortunately got struck in a controversy as his pronunciation went wrong.

Galatta Plus recently organized a ‘ roundtable in true sense’ program. Many celebrities including Karan Johar, Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, Anurag Kashyap, Hemanth Rao, Dulquer Salman, and many more attended the program.

During this time, director Hemanth Rao who was representing the Kannada film industry spoke about Kannada movies and Kannada viewers. He also mentioned that most of the people seemed to be unaware that it was ‘Kannada’ and not ‘Kannad.’ He said that when he came out for work opportunities 8-9 years ago, people used to say Kannad. And when he came back, people like him, Rakshit, Rishab, Raj, and Prasanth simply wanted to make people say Kannada. Hemanth also stated that KGF and Kantara have brought much-needed attention and recognition to the Kannada industry.

What drew everyone's attention, however, is that even after Hemanth mentioned Kannada pronunciation, Varun Dhawan continues to mispronounce the word.

Talking at the same program, Varun Dhawan said that he hate using the term regional cinema, but Kannad cinema, Tamil cinema, or Telugu cinema are now seeing so much limelight. But some of the biggest hits in Hindi, when his dad was making movies in the 90s, were remakes of Tamil or Telugu films.

Marking the same, one user on social platform wrote that Varun appears to be one of those people who is only concerned with himself, his career, and the success of his film. Bas. Doesn't care about cinema in general, isn't a film buff, doesn't appreciate other people's work, and is largely ignorant of anything that doesn't matter him.

"What did he even do to deserve a seat in this interview?" wrote another user.

"He is such an insult to Bollywood," one person wrote. This is all I had anticipated for from him."

Despite Hemanth's lengthy speech on Kannada pronunciation, netizens are outraged and accuse him of insulting the South.
