Alia Bhatt’s Custom Made Pink Lehenga has a Special Message on Sustainability

Alia Bhatt’s pink lehenga embroidered with drawings made my children and made entirely of waste fabric. Her pre-Diwali outfit was dedicated to the planet in many ways.

‘This Diwali I wanted to do something different, instead I wore something different,’ wrote Alia as she shared her new festive look the day before Diwali. Instead of going for an expected look, she decided to give her traditional attire a meaningful update.

She dressed in a custom-made creation by Madhurya, a textile-focused label previously worn by Bhatt, Priyanka Chopra and Kajal Aggarwal. The blush ink lehenga set, made from waste fabric, sent a positive message of upcycling and textile waste on Alia’s 50 million+ Instagram platform.

The creation’s intricacies were dedicated to our biodiversity and the artisans that brought the ensemble to life. ‘My Beautiful Planet’ is a collection of drawings made by 35 children studying in free schools of AOL.’

Each panel of the lehenga represented different landscapes – two poles, oceans, mountains and more. It is embroidered by hand by 13 karigars, sustaining their employment during the pandemic. Keep scrolling to see the outfit and how she styled it.

Over multi-shaded panels of pink, Alia’s lehenga also featured a lightly woven blush pink dupatta embroidered with the lyrics of one of her songs. She went light with her accessories. She picked only a pair of chunky silver jhumkas and matching bangles to complement the light tones of her lehenga. A voluminous ponytail and rosy-hued makeup completed the look.
