Bombay High Court Criticized Films Like 'Singham'!!

Judge from the Bombay High Court criticises the portrayal of judges in films and shows like "Singham" for instilling a lack of respect for the law.

Singham
Justice Gautam Patel of the Bombay High Court recently voiced his worries about how law enforcement is portrayed in popular culture at an event put on by the Indian Police Foundation. He made specific reference to popular films like "Singham," which show police officers executing fast justice without regard for proper legal procedures and convey a "dangerous" message.

The Singham Scandal
Justice Patel criticised the way that fast justice is meted out by heroic police officers in films like Singham. He emphasised the perilous message that is being conveyed. Police policemen are frequently portrayed as rebellious, submissive, and ill-dressed characters who take matters into their own hands in several films. Such films, according to Justice Patel, promote "impatience" with the law and give the impression that the police are "bullies, corrupt, and unaccountable."

The popular action movie "Singham," which debuted in July 2011, concludes with a scene in which the whole police force confronts a politician, symbolising the administration of justice, Justice Patel noted. But he questioned if justice is actually served in such cases, emphasising the peril of spreading this story.

Criticism of Judges' Representations
Justice Patel has criticised how judges are portrayed in movies, calling them frequently "docile, timid, thickly spectacled, and often very badly dressed." This, he claimed, supports the populist belief that the police must intervene on their own since the courts are not carrying out their duties.

Patience and due process are necessary
Justice Patel advised people to consider how impatient they are with the justice system. He emphasised the need of perseverance in the judicial system and forbade taking short cuts that could threaten the rule of law. He added that films are not the only medium in which the cops have a bad reputation.

"This is why some think it is not just okay, but rather celebrated, when a rape suspect is killed in an encounter while reportedly trying to run. They believe that justice has been done, but has it?," he questioned.

The statements of Justice Patel emphasised the necessity for a fair viewpoint on law enforcement and due process. The third installment of the Singham franchise, which stars Ajay Devgn, is currently under production when Justice Patel makes his remarks.
