Dhokha Round D Corner

The crime thriller "Dhokha: Round D Corner" takes viewers on a tumultuous journey from its opening scene, featuring a CGI drone shot of Mumbai, to the gripping conclusion. The film centers around Saanchi Sinha, a woman diagnosed with a personality disorder who becomes a hostage in the hands of a dangerous terrorist. As the narrative unfolds, viewers are presented with a mix of cat-and-mouse chase and a puzzle, where the reliability of each character's perspective is called into question.

The film begins with Saanchi and Yathaarth's seemingly happy married life. However, cracks soon start to appear in their relationship as their arguments escalate. Saanchi feels unappreciated for the efforts she puts into managing the household, while Yathaarth exhibits controlling tendencies. Saanchi, exhausted by the deteriorating state of their marriage, demands a divorce, but Yathaarth fails to address the issue.

Yathaarth, at his workplace, learns about a breaking news story concerning a terrorist who has taken a woman hostage in the same apartment complex where Saanchi lives. He suspects that Saanchi is the captive and rushes to the scene. Yathaarth informs the police about Saanchi's condition and attempts to negotiate her release. ACP Harish Malik takes charge of the operation, and the terrorist, Haq Gul, demands the release of Jibran as his first demand.

The film then presents conflicting narratives about Haq Gul. ACP Malik portrays him as a trained terrorist who planned to bomb a specific location, while Haq claims he was wrongly accused and had no intentions of becoming a terrorist. The pressure mounts on Malik to resolve the hostage situation swiftly, leading to political struggles and the potential involvement of NSG commandos.

In the film's climax, Saanchi's true nature is revealed. Yathaarth had been providing her with medication that worsened her mental health, contradicting his public claims. When Yathaarth goes upstairs with the ransom money, he seizes the opportunity to confess his intentions to Saanchi. Using Haq's control over the gun, Yathaarth shoots her multiple times. Simultaneously, it is revealed that ACP Malik had an affair with Saanchi and bribed Haq to kill her to save himself from exposure. Ultimately, both Yathaarth and Malik wanted to eliminate Saanchi for their own selfish reasons.

The film concludes with the revelation that Haq was the most naïve and gullible character. He fell for Saanchi's charms and ACP Malik's lies, unaware of their ulterior motives. Haq, betrayed by those he trusted, is arrested again and sentenced to death, with his mental instability preventing his execution.

In reflection, "Dhokha: Round D Corner" fails to deliver a compelling screenplay, editing, or performances. The film suffers from over-the-top dialogue delivery, a disjointed screenplay, and subpar acting by the male actors. The excessive twists and turns attempt to emulate the style of Abbas Mustan films but lack the necessary finesse. The film lacks the spice and entertainment value often associated with such thrillers.

"Dhokha: Round D Corner" is available for streaming on Netflix with subtitles, allowing viewers to explore the complexities of its storyline and unravel the fates of Saanchi, Haq Gul, and Yathaarth. While the film may fall short of expectations, it offers an intriguing exploration of deception and betrayal within the crime thriller genre.
