Is Karan Anshuman The Biggest Web Series Creator In India?

Karan Anshuman is currently basking in the success of Rana Naidu - the hit Netflix web series which featured in the top 10 lists of non-English shows on Netflix globally! What many people don't know is that he is also the creator & director of two other iconic web series - Mirzapur & Inside Edge.

Karan Anshuman started off his career as a director with the movie Bangistan. It was bankrolled by Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidhwani's Excel Entertainment - a top Bollywood production house. Excel Entertainment has a great track at the box office. Sadly, the movie did not perform too well. But looks like the head honchos at Excel did not lose faith in Karan & made him the showrunner for Inside Edge - Excel Entertainment's first web series. The show was a runaway hit among the cricket-crazy audiences of India. Karan followed this up with another huge hit - Mirzapur, starring Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal & Vikrant Massey. The direction & the dialogues of Mirzapur became a rage among the masses & classes alike. Both these shows were streamed on Amazon prime. The subsequent season of Inside Edge &  Mirzapur were eagerly awaited. Inside Edge Season 2 & 3, Mirzapur season 2 again were huge hits & got a lot of views on Amazon Prime. It cemented Karan's position as a top-notch showrunner. 

Inside Edge &  Mirzapur were made under the aegis of Excel Entertainment a production house renowned for making high-quality content especially aimed at urban audiences. Amazon prime too played a part in its success. Karan took a gamble by venturing out of Excel. He created a show with Netflix - Rana Naidu, which stars Rana & Venkatesh Daggubati. With the huge success of Rana Naidu (Hindi remake of Ray Donovan) on Netflix- which has struggled with creating hit Indian content, Karan has proven his mettle. Fans are now awaiting the next installment of Mirzapur, which is expected to release sometime this year.

While Raj & DK - Karan's closest competitors too have created some iconic shows - Family Man & Farzi, they haven't created as many shows as Karan Anshuman. Nobody else comes to mind when it comes to top showrunners Karan is in a league of his own.

Time will tell, whether Karan decides to play it safe by working only on his hit franchisees or keeps creating new shows. It is unknown to us what Farhan Akhtar & Ritesh Sidhwani - his bosses at Excel feel about his decision to work outside the production house & to branch out on his own. We hope they don;t make the mistake of replacing him.
