Since a long time, Ayushmann Khurrana has been away from the silver screen. He was last seen in Dream Girl 2 in 2023. The actor is currently shooting for a mega-budgeted spectacle Thama that is directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The film also stars nation’s current sensation Rashmika Mandana.

Ayushmann was roped in to play a key role in Border 2 but later the actor left the project since he was skeptical of his positioning in Sunny Deol’s biggest war film directed by Anurag Singh. Now, Varun Dhawan will be portraying this role.

A close source to the project Thama reveals, “Ayushmann had given his nod since he is headlining the film so he chose the film over an ensemble film Border.”

Rashmika, who is playing the female lead in Thama recently fractured her leg which is why she couldn’t shoot her portions as per the schedule. “Rashmika experienced s leg injury due to which she couldn’t resume the shoot of the film. She even promoted her last film Chhava amid her injury,” the source adds.

“The film is running delay hence the makers have recreated Delhi in Mumbai Film City to get the schedule on track. The film also requires extensive VFX that will also take a lot of time. It wasn’t possible for the makers logistically to move the shoot to Delhi.”

Thama is about a historian, who examines manuscripts that leads to clues to the mysterious vampire legends. Aditya had earlier helmed films like Munjya, The Secrets of the Shiledars, Kakuda among others.

Let’s see whether Ayushmann’s decision of choosing Thama over Border 2 will be fruitful at the box office. We hope makers would be able to finish the project on time. The film is slated for Diwali 2025 release.
