Neha Dhupia’s Controversy

Neha Dupia’s comments have led to a huge controversy. Was she right? Read our article by Purvi to find out.

Neha Dhupia is currently one of the ‘gang leaders’ on the popular reality TV show, ‘Roadies Revolution’. Her latest statement on this show has sparked controversy. In one of the recent episodes, Neha slammed one of the contestants for slapping his girlfriend when she was cheating on him. She also said that it was the girl’s choice to date multiple men at the same time but he didn’t have the right to hit her. After this statement, netizens took it to social media to accuse Neha of double standards and ‘fake feminism’.

After this, Neha Dhupia became the target of trolls and memes for her controversial statement. There were a lot of memes on her. In the earlier season of ‘Roadies’ there was a girl as a contestant who has slapped her boyfriends because of their inappropriate behaviours. To this Neha’s reaction very positive and she was proud of the girl. She even asked the girl for how she felt after slapping those boys. And now when a boy did the same Neha yelled at the boy saying he didn’t had the right to slap her. How the girl did have the right to slap the boys?

She was silent for a while and even off the comments to her recent posts. Neha finally broke her silence on the issue. Taking it to twitter she shared a long post where she stated that he ‘took a stand against violence’ and that adultery is a moral choice and moral choice is always ambiguous. She further tried to clear the air that cheating was not something she stood for and that she was ‘mispresented’ for the same. Neha added that she has been a subject of ‘weeks of vitriol’ over her comment and that her near and dear ones are being flooded with abuses and harassment.

She concluded by saying that physical abuse or assault is not acceptable and that educating one about domestic violence is important. She also added that even her daughter Meher Dhupia Bedi’s page faced a similar situation and it was ‘unacceptable by her’. And this is true, dragging someone’s family and children into such things isn’t ethically right. It was she who made a comment and her family and child has nothing to do with it. Her father’s WhatsApp chats were also full of offensive and abusive messages.

Despite Neha giving clarification about her statement, she is still being trolled on social media. Many famous artists and celebrities shared her post in which she tried to clear things. She received support from her industry friends, Karan Johar, Rakul Preet, Sophie Chaudhary and many more. She was also bashed by Kangana Ranaut’s sister Rangoli Chandel for being a fake feminist.

Now her husband Angad Bedi, has stood up for his wife and shared a befitting post. In the post, he shared five pictures with Neha and wrote, ‘Sun meri baat… Here are my five girlfriends!!! Ukhad lo jo ukhadna hai!!! @nehadhupia #itsmychoice.’ While Neha commented, ‘my man @angadbedi’.

Netizens trolled Angad for his post. One user wrote, ‘iske bhi 510 boyfriends hoge. Tu isko thappad maat maar dena barna tere sath unsafe feel karegi. Bczz it’s her choice.’ Another user demanded an apology from her and wrote, ‘pfft just tell her to say sorry, don’t stand for what you know is wrong. Mistakes happen, we can all be okay with that, but standing for what you said in the heat of the moment, that is purely dumb.’

To all this, Taapsee Pannu showed us the other perceptive. She wrote, ‘for all the ppl writing abusive and harassing messages to you (Neha) and your family should know, they aren’t on the right side of the moral compass they are acting to be the torch bearers of. Adultery is wrong morally and so is violence. One can’t be the response to the other.’
This is an important perceptive too. We aren’t denying the hypocrisy is Neha’s statement, but here is the thing violence is never the answer. Cheating on someone is morally wrong; it’s a choice, but a morally wrong one. People cheat and that’s not okay but it is also not okay to slap them. Cheating is wrong. So is violence. And like Taapsee said, one can’t be the response to the other. Two wrongs don’t make a right.

What Neha Dhupia said to the guy was right. If his girlfriend cheated on him, which is morally wrong but still a choice, he still cannot hit her. But she should have said the same to that girl who said she’s been physically abusive with men. She laughed it off and that’s where she is wrong. So we may call her out as much as we want for being a hypocrite but that still doesn’t mean that it’s okay for anyone to slap anyone. Just because Neha is wrong here, doesn’t mean the guy is right. We shouldn’t be fighting about how dare she told the guy to not hit, our question should be why did she not say the same to the other girl.
