Payal Ghosh Unconditionally Apologizes To Richa Chadha
On Wednesday, 14 October 2020, the Bombay High Court accepted the unconditional apology of Payal Ghosh for making ‘false, baseless, indecent and derogatory statements’ against Richa Chadha and sought monetary compensation. The single bench led by justice AK Menon accepted the apology of Ghosh after granting two days for settling the consent of the involved parties and sorting the matter by ‘talking to each other’ rather than ‘others’.
Ms Ghosh’s statement in court mentions, ‘ She withdraws her statements and defamatory posts pertaining to the plaintiff (Richa Chadha) as mentioned vide the current interim application and suit, including without limitation her statements and defamatory posts vide the interview to the plaint and unconditionally apologises to the plaintiff.’
The matter would have been settled on October 7 when Mr Nitin Satpute, Ms Ghosh’s lawyer, affirmed his client’s consent to offer an unconditional apology. However, as the last hearing ended, Ms Ghosh had tweeted on her social media account that she will never apologise as she has not done anything wrong.
“I am not apologizing to anyone. I have not wronged nor have I given a wrong statement about anyone. I just said what @anuragkashyap told me #SorryNotSorry’.’
Concerning the statements made by Ghosh on her social media account, the judge asked her lawyer whether she was interested in settling the matter or not. Mr Satpute mentions that his client will withdraw her statement and apologize provided that Chadha does not file any criminal case after the hearing.
Upon making the statement of offering an unconditional apology on October 7, Richa Chadha had made certain statements to the media saying that she had already won the case, without any proper hearing. It resulted in the social media trolling of Payal Ghosh.
On September 19, while giving an interview to ABN, Ms Payal Ghosh mentions, ‘Anurag Kashyap opened his zip and pushed it inside’, and on September 23, Ms Ghosh filed an FIR at Mumbai’s Versova Station, alleging Anurag Kashyap of raping her in 2013. Upon being questioned by the police on October 1, Kashyap denied the allegations by saying that he was busy for his shoot in Sri Lanka and also provided the relevant proofs for the same.
While accusing Anurag Kashyap of raping her, Payal Ghosh also drags the well-known actress Richa Chadha into the accusations of sexual harassment. On September 21, Richa Chadha had taken legal action against Payal Ghosh for ‘unnecessarily and falsely dragging in a defamatory manner into controversies and allegations being recently raised by third parties.’
