Satyamev Jayate Review

John Abraham’s latest movie – Satyamev Jayate is turning out to be John Abraham’s biggest solo hero hit. Is it worth watching? Read our review to find out!

Synopsis

The movie starts off with several corrupt police officers being burned alive by the main protagonist – Veer(John Abraham). All the police officers killed by Veer are shown to extremely cruel & corrupt. At such a time DCP Shivansh(Manoj Bajpayee) is asked to cut his vacation short & is asked to nab the cop killer. Thus starts the game of cat & mouse. The killer calls DCP Shivansh & threatens to harm him, but the strong willed DCP doesn’t budge. DCP Shivansh deciphers the pattern in the killings & rightly predicts his next victim. But despite setting a trap the killer escapes. We are later told that Veer & DCP Shivansh know each other very well, but DCP Shivansh doesn’t know that Veer is in fact the cop killer. Veer has a GF- Shikha(Aisha Sharma) who is also a veterinarian. Will DCP Shivansh figure out that Veer is the cop killer? Why is Veer hell bent on killing corrupt cops? How is Veer’s GF involved in all of this? You will have to watch the movie to find out.

Strengths

The movie starts off well. While it has a hackneyed plot of a vigilante out for justice, the first half manages to hold your attention. The cops who get killed are over the top & make you hate them. Several scenes drew whistles from the crowd. The scene involving the muslim kid getting beaten by a cruel cop & the hero extracting justice stands out. Nora Fatehi’s Dilbar adds to the allure. Manoj Bajpayee as usual is good & plays his part well. But it is John Abraham who surprises us with his convincing performance. He has certainly come a long way from being called a non-actor.

Weaknesses

While the first half kept us entertained, the second half was a bit boring. Barring a few twists there is nothing new the movie has to offer. This plot has been done & dusted by the other actors, especially in the 80’s. None of the songs barring Dilbar stay with you.

While it is not a great film, it does make for a decent entertainer. Watch it if you have othing much to do over the weekend. You will love it if you are a sucker for those typical Bollywood masala movies. This one is for the single screen audience.
