Nana Patekar at a time when he couldn't afford to eat

I used to go over to a friend's house for lunch or dinner and say, "Hello." Hello there. 'How are you doing?' I'm hoping he'll inquire and demand that I eat roti. So there is no scent that compares to that of a chapati for me.

Smita Patil inspired Nana Patekar to pursue acting

Smita Patil, who was already working in films and knew me from Pune, introduced me to the industry. I was hesitant, but she insisted. For a part in Aaj Ki Awazand, she introduced me to Ravi Chopra.

Nana Patekar on why people believe he's an angry person

I believe it's because of the embarrassment I experienced at the time. When I think about how people handled me, tears well up in my eyes. I've been employed for 51 years, starting at the age of 13. Actually, I felt weak and inferior, which manifested itself as anger.

Nana Patekar talks about how he doesn't want to hit people

I don't like to lift my fist, and I've only ever hit Malhar, my 30-year-old son. I'm tempted to hit people, but I don't. Really, when I encounter people who make me angry, I get tears in my eyes.

Nana Patekar explains why he celebrates Ganapati despite not believing in God

Since my father used to do it, and after he died, I simply followed my mother's instructions. It's a time when everybody comes to visit you for those ten days.

Nana Patekar speaks about his mother

When I think of her, I become disabled. I know she's 94 and could pass away at any moment, so I'm terrified whenever I get a call from home. She is unable to see and is still breathing as a result of my presence. If she knows I'm going out, she'll clutch my hand and sob. She now resembles my girl.

Nana Patekar on Neelkanti, his wife

She is a brahmin, and brahmins are intelligent individuals. She is a lovely person who is completely genuine and happy with everything she has. She was employed as a bank officer. And, though I would be paid ‘750 per month (as I was paid ‘50 per show), she was paid ‘2,500 per month.

Nana Patekar on, his wife, is a strong supporter of him

‘Do whatever job you want to do,' she had said, and I am whatever I am today because of her, 'I know you'll make the money tomorrow if not today.'

Nana Patekar on the death of his father and first son

At the age of 27, I married and had my first child. My father died when I was 28, and I lost my first son two and a half years later. He'd had a split lip since birth and had a lot of issues.

Nana Patekar on no longer caring

I'm not concerned. I'm not feeling anything right now. It makes no difference whether my film is effective or not, whether I am honored or not. I'm a bit obsessed with death right now.

As can be seen, Nana is not one to mice words & says things as it is. He is truly one of a kind.
