Amitabh Bachchan's character Shyam and Toofan, twins, are split apart at birth by their father Pran Sikand, a police investigator. When he grows up, one becomes a magician, and the other, Toofan, a poor man's hero. Toofan tries to get his father's name removed from the police files when he is wrongfully charged with stealing millions of dollars worth of gold.
