The genre of action is tried and true. Here's a list of excellent action films that you can watch right now to relieve stress. I chose action films with strong narratives and well-developed characters. After all, simply acting is rarely enough. A solid plot and sympathetic characters are also required to properly appreciate an action film.
Let us take a look at some of the best Hollywood action films.
-
Oldboy
Park Chan-wook, the director, has already established a reputation for making disturbing films with unexpected twists, the most notable of which was Oldboy. Oh Dae-Su (Choi Min-Sik), the protagonist of the neo-noir action film, has just been released from prison when he finds himself caught up in a significant conspiracy controlled by unknown forces.

Avengers: Infinity War
The events of Phase Three are brought to a thrilling climax in Avengers: Infinity War, as Thanos (Josh Brolin), who has obtained the majority of the Infinity Stones, poses a threat to the safety of the entire multiverse. All the thrilling events in Infinity War build-up to the film's shocking conclusion, which focuses on Thanos' catastrophic snap and horrifying consequences.

The Northman
Following the critical success of The Witch and The Lighthouse, Robert Eggers' third film, The Northman, was one of 2022's most promising prospects. The Northman is an epic journey set in 9th-century Iceland about a Viking prince's quest to avenge his father, save his mother, and kill his treacherous uncle. The Northman features Eggers' signature dark style, but it is the brutal violence that distinguishes it from his previous works. Although The Northman's box office performance was disappointing, its distinct aesthetic and intensely absorbing leading performance by Alexander Skarsgard make it a must-see film.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
The MCU had an up-and-down year in 2022, with Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness failing to live up to expectations, but Black Panther: Wakanda Forever was a success. Black Panther 2, which is centered on Wakanda's battle against Namor and the Talokans, is unsurprisingly a box office success, but more importantly, it is a fitting tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman that hits all the right emotional notes following the star's death. Wakanda Forever also overcomes recent criticism of Marvel's sloppy visual effects and finds a way to respectfully move the franchise forward with Shuri as the new Black Panther.
-
The Batman
Robert Pattinson's The Batman, the latest incarnation of Gotham's Dark Knight, focuses on a less experienced version of the vigilante than general audiences are familiar with as he takes on The Riddler. The grounded detective story is packed with action as Bruce Wayne squares off against several hired goons, cops, and even Catwoman, all while making good use of the billionaire's expensive gadgets and famous Batmobile. The Batman is the sixth highest-grossing film of 2022, and the popularity of the Caped Crusader means that it is only the first installment of a new Batman franchise, with a sequel and multiple Batman spinoff series on the way.
-
Chaos Walking
This sci-fi adventure, based on the same-named YA novel series, is incredibly imaginative and one-of-a-kind. The series takes place in a world where all women appear to have died, and men's thoughts are broadcast live for all to hear, much like a radio show. When a girl (Daisy Ridley, who plays strong sci-fi ladies) arrives on the planet and her emotions aren't audible, a guy (Tom Holland) realizes she's in danger and joins forces with her.
-
Mad Max: Fury Road
Mad Max, terrified by his extremely brutal, savage, and violent past, believes that roaming alone is his only option for survival. Regardless, he finds himself engulfed in a group of people fleeing across the Wasteland aboard a War Rig piloted by an elite Imperator named Furiosa. They are fleeing a Citadel that appears to be under the control of the Immortan Joe, who has stolen something valuable. Enraged, the Warlord gathers his gang members and mercilessly pursues the rebellion in the ensuing high-octane Road War.
-
The Suicide Squad
It is a 2021 American superhero film based on the same-named DC Comics team. The Suicide Squad is a hilarious, fast-paced sequel that plays to the original material's aggressive, authoritarian strengths, fueled by writer-director James Gunn's uniquely skewed perception.
The government exiles the world's most powerful evil sorcerers, such as Bloodsport, Peacemaker, King Shark, Harley Quinn, and others, to the remote, rival-infested island of Corto Maltese. They travel through the dangerous jungle, armed with high-tech weapons, on a lookout mission, with only Col. Rick Flag on the surface to keep them in line.
-
Riders of Justice
RIDERS OF JUSTICE appears to be following Markus, a recently launched soldier who is being returned home. Riders of Justice is a darkly comic vengeful thriller with satiating detail and a dash of savoury quirk that adds to Mads Mikkelsen's credibility as a purposeful lead character man. RIDERS OF JUSTICE appears to follow Markus (Mads Mikkelsen), a recent soldier who is supposed to return home to care for his teen daughter after his wife is killed in a horrific train crash. When a trained rescuer claims foul play, Markus suspects his wife was murdered and embarks on a vengeance-fueled mission to find those responsible.

The Paper Tigers
Quoc Bao Tran's The Paper Tigers combines action, humour, and soul to kick off a new martial arts film with enough retro charm. Three martial artists, known as "the three tigers" at their peak, have reached middle age, possibly due to a muscle strain. However, in order to avenge their teacher's murder, they must juggle dead-end jobs, fatherly duties, and old grudges. Three Kung Fu prodigies have grown into washed-up middle-aged men on the verge of tearing their hamstring muscles. This is an American martial arts comedy-drama film written and directed by Bao Tran in his feature film directorial debut.
