Untold Facts About Neena Gupta - Vivian Richards Affair
In the past, there have been numerous relationships between Bollywood actresses and Indian cricketers, but Neena Gupta and Vivian Richards, a West Indian cricket player, had a special connection.
Neena Gupta is known for her outspoken and courageous attitude in the film industry, and has made a name for herself through her great performances. When they fell in love, both Indian and foreign media covered it extensively. Unfortunately, their love story could not last due to some reasons and cultural differences.
Neena Gupta had to take care of herself and was excluded by orthodox society in India, which she has discussed in the Netflix series Masaba Masaba.
The romantic relationship between the two began in the late 1980s when Vivian came to India as part of his West Indies team. At the time, Viv was known for being a ladies' man. At an event in Mumbai, an established actress was invited by a director, where she met Viv for the first time. Despite having nothing in common and Viv not knowing much about Bollywood, a connection was made between them.
The relationship between the two flourished quickly and soon they began seeing each other, though Viv was already married and had two children. For many years, the pair managed to keep their relationship a secret. However, Neena was surprised one day when she found out she was pregnant, but marriage to Vivian was out of the question.
Neena Gupta was brought up by orthodox parents, and at that time it was uncommon to have a baby outside of marriage. In fact, even now, famous people would think twice before having a child born out of love due to the amount of media attention celebrities usually receive.
Neena Gupta refused to be intimidated by society or its traditional beliefs. Despite the opposition of her family and friends, she continued with her pregnancy and gave birth to her daughter, Masaba Gupta.
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Neena Gupta responded to a question regarding something she wanted to go back and change by saying, "I would not have chosen to have a child outside of marriage. Every child deserves both of their parents. I was always honest with my daughter, Masaba, so our relationship was not altered, but I understand that she experienced some suffering". At the age of forty-two, Neena finally found romance with Vivek Mehra, a chartered accountant from Delhi, in 2008 and they got married.
