What Happened To Urmila Matondkar’s Acting Comeback Tiwari?

Actress Urmila Matondkar did coming of age roles back in the 90’s. She was considered one of the most boldest actress of our times. Her speculated relationship with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma sparked several controversies every now and then. Urmila was last seen in a Hindi film EMI alongside Sanjay Dutt in the year 2008.

In 2014, she did a Marathi film Ajoba and did a song Bewafa Beauty in 2016 released film Blackmail that starred late Irrfan and Kirti Kulhari. Post that, Urmila wasn’t seen on screen. However, she judged a couple of dance reality shows but remained away from the screen. 

In 2022, Urmila grabbed the headlines with the news of her acting comeback with a thriller series on OTT titled Tiwari. The series is about a woman Kalki played by Urmila, who comes out of the jail after serving 

for a crime she hadn’t done. 14 years later, she is now on a hunt for the person who framed her.

A close source to the project informs, “The first schedule of Tiwari has been shot and just before the second schedule, the producers had a tiff over creative differences with the director. There’s a lot of portion left that needs to be done.”

Tiwari also stars Chakravarthy and Rajesh Sharma in the key roles and is helmed by Saurabh Varma. Urmila has always been a critically acclaimed actress and there’s a lot of anticipation on her comeback. 

In 2024, Urmila announced her divorce with Mohsin Akhtar Ali after eight years of marriage. The actress also had a stint with political parties Shiv Sena and Congress.
