Guess Who: This Remake Is Facing Copyright Issues

Mumbai Mirror has published a blind item about a big collaboration which is facing copyright issues & which may lead to the movie getting shelved.

So much brouhaha & all for nothing! First there were issues with the casting of the heroine. Then came news of the hero not being keen on doing the movie after his last release – an action movie, turned out to be a superhit. Then we read an article where it was mentioned that the hero’s filmmaker father was the one advising him against doing it & that the hero did not like the first draft of the script. Then a few weeks later we read about the hero opting out of the movie & another superstar replacing him. But now if this blind item is to be believed, the makers never had the copyright in the first place. Looks like we have all been taken for a ride.

Meanwhile this hero has done the smartest thing of speaking up over a contentious issue which has gripped the imagination of the nation & staying neutral. His arch rival on the other hand is calling bollywood celebs a bunch of sissies not making their stand clear. To be fair, bollywood celebs stand to lose big time if their fans don’t agree with their views. The bigger the celeb the bigger the loss. Remember the A-list superstar who lost out on advertising fees which ran into million for speaking his mind? He was the one who bore the loss, while the ones who instigated him to speak up faced no consequences. One can’t now blame the A-listers for acting selfish & not making their opinions public.

AFTER all the news this big collaboration made in the last several months, it looks like the movie isn’t happening. Seems they couldn’t incorporate a key element critical to the plot due to (ehm!) copyright issues. The director and the team spent a month at an outstation seven-star hotel to crack it, but the producer wasn’t exactly kicked. As the signing amount is seldom returned, it remains to be seen what new idea the makers choose to collaborate on now. More importantly, shouldn’t they have secured the rights before the announcement?
