The high-priced watermelon with unique characteristics is considered the world's most expensive due to its value in lakhs. During summer, the demand for various things, including watermelons, increases. Watermelons are particularly appealing due to their sweet taste, which attracts people of all ages, especially in the scorching heat. Although watermelon prices fluctuate according to demand, they are often prohibitively expensive.

However, not everyone can afford to indulge in the watermelon breed we're introducing today. This specific watermelon, also known as black watermelon, belongs to the Densuk species and is considered the most expensive watermelon globally. It grows exclusively in the northern part of Hokkaido Island in Japan, and its yield is exceptionally low, producing only 100 pieces per year. As a result, it is incredibly rare in fruit markets and challenging to obtain.

Watermelon sold for 4.5 lakhs 

The uniqueness of these watermelons is such that they are not readily available in stores like regular watermelons; instead, they are auctioned annually. As a result, wealthy bidders bid extravagantly on them, often resulting in prices ranging in the thousands and lakhs of rupees. In 2019, the priciest watermelon of this variety fetched Rs. 4.5 lakhs.

Simultaneously, the corona pandemic has also impacted this exceptional fruit, causing its price to plummet significantly in the last two years. Nevertheless, despite this setback, the black watermelon remains the most uncommon and expensive watermelon globally.

This watermelon possesses unique characteristics that set it apart from other varieties. Its exterior is bright and black, while the interior is crisp and less seedy, with a sweeter taste than other watermelons. A few lucky individuals who have tried it assert that it tastes like a regular watermelon, but much more delectable and flavorful.

It is worth noting that not all watermelons from this breed command such high prices, only the fruit from the first crop is sold at a premium. The subsequent crop's fruit can be obtained for up to 19 thousand rupees. Nonetheless, despite the lower price, it remains significantly more expensive than regular watermelons.
