Birth & Family

Navjot Simi, who finished 735th in the UPSC 2018, was born on December 21, 1987, in Gurdaspur, Punjab. She began her career as a dentist after receiving her BDS degree from the Baba Jaswant Singh Dental Hospital and Research Institute in Ludhiana. Despite her belief that one could crack the UPSC without going to expensive coaching centres and instead by utilizing the internet, which has all the resources a candidate needs, she received her coaching from a renowned institute in New Delhi.

Her father, Hans Raj, is the branch manager of the local Union Bank branch; her mother is a housewife; her younger sister is an MBA working in Dubai; and her younger brother is a computer programmer but works as a photographer.

Her Husband

Tushar Singla, a recent IIT Delhi graduate and 2015 IAS rank holder from Barnala, Punjab, chose Public Administration as his civil services exam option. His path to success was difficult, but the payoff was sweet. He married Simi in Uluberia in 2020, with plans to celebrate their marriage after the West Bengal elections in 2021. His commitment to self-improvement simplified his exam strategy and increased his confidence.

UPSC Rank

Simi began studying for the IPS exam in 2016 when she started working as a dentist, and she eventually passed the exam in 2018. She attempted and failed the Union Public Service Exam in 2017, but passed it in 2018, placing 735th on the list of applicants. Despite pressure from family and friends to marry soon after receiving her BDS degree, she remained focused on her goals and became an IPS officer.
