The much-awaited action-packed and fierce series Mirzapur is back with its second season which was released on Friday, 23 2020 at 12 am IST on Amazon Prime Video. The new season has once again unveiled the world of unapologetic corruption in politics, the belligerent power-hungry gangster megalomaniacs sought by depicting the violent gory details, which has become the idiosyncratic mark of the series, not unlike its forebear. Starring inimitable actors such as Pankaj Tripathi, Devyendu Sharma, Ali Fazal, Rasika Dugal and others, Mirzapur season 2 depicts a dark gothic setting, with shadows of death looming over the minds of the characters.

With the beginning of the first episode, the tone of the season can be easily extrapolated. Guddu Bhaiya (Ali Fazal) and Gajgamini aka Golu (Shweta Tripathi) set to seek revenge over the death of Bablu (Vikrant Massey) at the end of season 1. This journey of revenge and vindication is surreptitiously concocted with the greed of power and taking over Mirzapur.

Although season 1 ends with a hopeful rejuvenation of the relationship between Kaleen Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) and his son, Munna Bhaiya (Devyendu Sharma), the image of Munna as a careless and irresponsible son continues which somewhere hinders the actions of Munna in the new season.

Apart from the leading actors, the new season has also added new actors like Vijay Varma, Priyanshu Painyuli and Isha Talwar, who have been successful in adding new taste and effect to the season. In addition to the new characters, attention towards feminist roles also sneaks up as a theme in the season, with Golu (Shweta Tripathi) and Dimpy Pandit (Harshita Gaur), associating themselves with the mafia wars, which is in stark contrast to the calm, shy roles that they played in season 1.

All in all, the second season continues to carry forward the loudmouth characters, excessive violence, profanities and bloodshed. Moreover, it does not leave any stone unturned as, rest assured, all doubts will be cleared. In a nutshell, Mirzapur 2, is greatly recommended to watch as it underlies the themes of revenge and corruption, but perhaps it’s better to caution the meek-hearted.
