In the Uttar Pradeshi district of Jalaun, on April 22, 1983 (41 years old as of 2024), Saurabh was born in Chamari village. Saraswati Sishu Mandir Orai was the school where Dwivedi began his education; he left in 1993.

His parents then sent him to Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Sanatan Dharma Vidyalaya (Kanpur), a boarding school, which he attended till 1998. In 2000, Saurabh finished his intermediate education (12th standard) at the Jugal Devi Saraswati Vidya Mandir in Kanpur. He graduated from Dayanand Vedic College Orai with a degree in mathematics. In 2006, he completed his post-graduation studies in Hindi literature at JNU. completed a one-year postgraduate program at IIM Delhi in mass communication in 2007.

According to an interview Saurabh did for IIT Bombay's e-conclave 2021, he was made to select mathematics and, if given the option, would have chosen the arts. He added that he told his parents he wanted to study the arts after graduation and that's why he attended JNU to get his master's degree in Hindi literature. 

2010 saw Saurabh tie the knot with Gunjan, his longtime girlfriend. He's been known to characterize his wife as his greatest strength, his toughest critic, and his best friend. Gaura is their daughter's name.

Saurabh Dwivedi is descended from a family of Hindu brahmins. His father, retired professor Ravikant Dwivedi, gave birth to him. Some websites claim that his father is a Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) member.  Abhay Dwivedi, his older brother, is a director of Infopark in the Jalaun district.
