He met Vikram while on crutches after an accident in the 1980s. She is a psychology teacher.

Vikram Wife Shailaja was born and raised in Thalassery, Kerala. She works as a psychology teacher at a leading school in Chennai. Shailaja first meet with Vikram happened after he met with an unfortunate accident while shooting. After a few years of dating, Vikram married her in Guruvayoor in 1992.

Later, the couple were married in a private wedding ceremony held at the church at Loyola College, Chennai. Shailaja also worked on the film Deiva Thirumagal by providing professional advice on how to treat people with special needs and helping to develop a character played by her husband Vikram. The couple had a daughter named Akshita and a son — Dhruv Vikram.

Her son Dhruv Vikram made his debut into Tamil cinema through the remake of Sandeep Reddy directional Arjun Reddy ( titled Vaarma in Tamil). The movie was released and got mixed reviews, but on the whole Dhruv's was proved to be a good actor fitting his father's shoes. While her daughter, Akshita married DMK Legend M Karunanidhi’s great grandson Manu Ranjith. The low-key wedding celebration was conducted at Karunanidhi’s residence in Chennai.

While Shailaja is a Hindu, Vikram belongs to Christianity.
During the award ceremonies or any other television award functions of Vikram, she and her children would like to sit at the back to enjoy the event as well as to maintain privacy.
