We're only a day away from the weekend, and like every week, there are some terrific movies coming out this week in theatres and on
OTT platforms. After a week of romantic and love-stricken films, the third week of February features some interesting lineups in many genres that will help you plan your weekend.
Considering it is Shivaratri, the glorious day of Shiva, if you are fasting and looking forward to spending the day with your family, we have compiled a list of movies that will be available in theatres and on demand this weekend.
Check out the following South films that are set to be released this weekend:
Sir/ Vaathi
Dhanush's bilingual flick Sir, dubbed Sir in Telugu and Vaathi in Tamil, hits theatres on Friday, February 17. This will be the Kollywood superstar's first Telugu film. Venky Atluri of Bimbisara fame directed the film. The female lead is Samyuktha Menon. The soundtracks and music for the film are created by GV Prakash Kumar. The outstanding initiative is being funded by Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya.
In the film, Dhanush plays the role of a school lecturer. Sir/Vaathi is billed as a period social drama about the education mafia. The film depicts a young man's fight against education privatisation.
Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha
Kiran Abbavaram, a young hero, is gearing up for a fresh release this weekend with the love film Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha. The plot centres around two people who cross paths, and things take an unexpected turn when they meet and become a vital part of each other's life. The plot hinges on whether they will form a deep friendship and live happily ever after. On February 18, the film will be released in theatres.
Vinaro Bhagyamu Vishnu Katha, written and directed by Murali Kishor Abburu, stars Subhalekha Sudhakar, Murali Sharma, Praveen, LB Sriram, and others. Chitan Bharadwaj created the music for this film, which was produced by GA2 Productions and directed by Allu Aravind.
Sridevi Shoban Babu
Telugu film Santosh Soban and Gouri Kishan appear as the key characters of Sridevi Shoban Babu, a romantic drama. The film will be released in theatres on February 18th. The film was directed by Prashanth Kumar Dimmala, while the music was composed by Syed Kamran. '96' actor Gouri Kishan makes his Telugu debut in this flick.
Bakasuran
The next Tamil film Bakasuran, directed by Selvaraghavan, will be released in theatres on February 17. Mohan G directed the film, which stars DOP Nataraj, Radharavi, Rajan, Rams, Saravanan Subbiah, Mansoor Ali Khan, and Devadharshini in supporting parts. The film is produced by GM Film Corporation and has music by Sam CS.
It should be mentioned that Bakasuran will compete with Dhanush's Vaathi/Sir on February 17.
Christy
Malavika Mohanan's upcoming Malayalam film Christy will also be released in theatres on Friday, February 17th. The film's lead actor is Roshan Mathew. Christy is directed by Alvin Henry and written by Benyamin and GR Indugopan. According to reports, the next film is about a teenage lad who falls in love with an older woman.
This week's OTT releases
Gaalodu
Gaalodu is a Telugu film that will be available on the OTT platform Amazon Prime Videos on February 17. The film is directed by Rajasekar Reddy Pulicharla and stars Sudheer Babu of Jabardasth fame, Anand Bayana, Gehna Sippy, Sapthagiri, and Shakalaka Shankar in lead parts.
Malikappuram
Unni Mukundan's Malayalam film Malikappuram, which is based on Lord Ayyappa, was released in theatres in December and received an incredible response from the audience. The story follows an eight-year-old girl and her devotion to Lord Ayyappa. Following a personal tragedy, she decides to visit the hill shrine. Among those who appear in the film are Deva Nandha and Ramesh Pisharody. The film is available to watch on Disney and Hotstar.
Kalyanam Kamaneeyam
Anil Kumar Aalla directed the romance comedy entertainer Kalyanam Kamaneeyam. The major protagonist actors in the film are Santosh Shoban and Priya Bhavani Shankar, alongside Devi Prasad,
Pavitra Lokesh, Satyam Rajesh, Sapthagiri, Saddam, and many others in supporting roles. Sravan Bharadwaj composed the soundtrack. UV Concepts banner produced the film. It will be released on Aha on February 17th.
