Riya Shibu is an Indian actress and film producer who primarily works in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. She is the daughter of well-known film producer Shibu Thameens, the founder of Thameens Films. Although she was expected by most to follow the lead of the family and continue as a producer/film producer like they are, she surprised so many by also stepping into acting as well.
Over the past several years, she has made quite an impression on the movie-going public, especially with her performances in Malayalam films and the fact that she has been a producer of many successful films herself.
A Little About Her Early Life and Education
Riya’s birthday is September 25, 2004; she was born in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She has lived her entire life in an environment where movies were a big part of her daily life. From a young age, she would visit film sets and talk to people from the film industry, which naturally developed her interests in the entertainment world.
Riya attended school through graduation at Trivandrum International School, then went on to graduate with a degree in visual communication from Loyola College in Chennai. Attending these two schools has allowed her to develop a good understanding of filmmaking, media production, and visual storytelling.
In addition to school, Riya was active on various social media sites from an early age as she created short-form content for her family/friends/audience. Once Riya began her acting career, having developed her confidence in front of a camera was a big benefit to her.
Riya comes from an established and respected family in the film industry. Shibu Thameens, her father, is a famous producer of many successful South Indian films. Hridhu Haroon, her brother, is an actor who works in films from Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi.
Because of this background, Riya was able to get a lot of experience in the entertainment industry before she turned 18. She has always been determined to create her own identity apart from her family name and has been working towards doing this for her entire career.
Riya began her career as a film producer while many people were still figuring out what they wanted to do with their lives. In 2023, she made her first film, Thugs, a Tamil-language action film made under the HR Pictures production company.
Following Thugs, she became part of numerous other films, including Mumbaikar — a Hindi version of the critically-acclaimed Tamil film, Maanagaram, which showcased her ability to manage production responsibilities so well, even at such a young age.
In subsequent years, she worked on films such as Mura and Veera Dheera Sooran: Part 2, further establishing herself as an outstanding and successful young female film producer with an exciting future ahead of her.
Riya will also now be working as an actress after having produced since 2024. Her first time acting was when she starred as Anna Kurien in the Malayalam film Cup. In 2025, she established herself as a well-known actor in the comedy-horror film Sarvam Maya, where she played the kooky ghost character “Delulu.” Her expressive performance and comic timing were impressive to audiences, and this role helped her gain even more popularity, as well as give her the opportunity to reach out to a larger audience.
Now she has added another diverse role to her burgeoning film portfolio with the soon-to-be-released Malayalam film Athiradi.
