Tej Pratap Yadav: The Rebel Prince of Bihar Politics, Biography, Age, Height, Career,Wife , Net Worth In 2026

Bihar's Tej Pratap Yadav, one of the most prominent politicians in the country, is the son of Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav, two of the most prominent leaders in Bihar. Born into a political dynasty, he has experienced many highs and lows throughout his career and has had many personal struggles, but has also made significant changes in his political aspirations.

Tej Pratap was born on April 16, 1988, in Gopalganj, Bihar. Due to being the firstborn son of Lalu and Rabri Devi, his family history made it easy for him to be successful.

He completed his schooling through BSEB, Patna, in April 2010, secondary school and completed his education at Bihar National College, majoring in Political Science. He was unable to complete this program. Tej Pratap also received a short stint at the Bihar Flying Institute as a Commercial Pilot, but was unable to complete his flying hours.

In 2015, Tej Pratap became a member of the RJD and entered politics for the first time by running for the Mahua Assembly seat, where he successfully won. After winning the Mahua seat in the assembly, Tej Pratap became the Minister of Health in the Government of Nitish Kumar, and also held a position as the Minister of Environment and Forests in the same government.

Elected MLA from Hasanpur, he struggled to maintain unity with his party because of internal disputes that resulted from growing up in the shadow of his much younger brother Tejashwi — the highly visible political face of the RJD.

In 2025, political tensions grew due to public disputes followed by family scandals, resulting in his father expelling him from both the RJD and the family structure, thus changing the dynamic of dynastic politics in Bihar.

Tej Pratap formally announced the creation of a new political party, which would be called the Janshakti Janata Dal. This party would allow him an opportunity to pursue politics independently of his father and brother.

Tej Pratap has been the focus of several major controversies throughout his political development:

Public disputes with members of the RJD.

Public behavior captured in viral videos while on excursions to religious sites.

Political statements targeted toward his political opponents.

Open criticism of RJD decisions.

Dramatic public style, including times he appeared in the likeness of Lord Krishna at public events.

Personal Life & Divorce

Tej Pratap is the husband of Aishwarya Rai (the granddaughter of former Bihar Chief Minister Daroga Prasad Rai). They were married in May 2018; their wedding was set up as an alliance for political reasons. However, the couple quickly fell apart after the wedding and, within only a few months, had both filed for divorce against each other with accusations of numerous issues from both sides.

Tej Pratap also had additional controversy in 2025, when another woman he had been in a long-term relationship with posted about their relationship on social media, and this led to more family and political tension for him during that time.

Net Worth & Lifestyle

According to his election affidavit from 2024, Tej Pratap's total assets are roughly valued between ₹3 - 4 crore. Listed below is a partial recap of his asset holdings:

Agricultural property in Bihar

Residential/Commercial Real Estate

Luxury Automobiles, including BMW and Superbikes

Money in Central/State Banks or Cash Accounts

Even with the political issues Tej Pratap has faced, his financial status has remained stable.

Social Media and Public Image

Tej Pratap is very active on social media, primarily on Twitter (@TejYadav14) and Instagram, and he utilizes both platforms - along with his other media activity - to convey a mixture of political commentary and personal musings to remain relevant within Bihar's political environment.

A Complicated Legacy

Tej Pratap Yadav's journey as a politician highlights the challenges faced by dynastic politicians trying to fulfill obligations to their parentage while still staying true to themselves and their constituents. Unlike Tejashwi Yadav (Tej Pratap's brother), who has an organized, formally completed representation for RJD, Tej Pratap has a more spontaneous and unstructured representation for the party.

It is unclear if Tej will attain his independent political aspirations, but he will certainly remain an impactful player in Bihar Politics.
