Audiences are starved for entertainment & OTT web series are our biggest hope. Abhay 2 which released recently on ZEE5 caught our attention. We had seen the first season & found it to be a good watch. Is the second season as good as the first? Read our review to find out!

Summary

In the second season, Abhay(Kunal Khemu) continues to hunt murderers. He leads a team of officers who specialize in solving such cases. Out of the three episodes that we saw, the first episode dealt with a cannibal(Chunky Pandey) who eats the brains of the brainy(pun intended)students. The second episode is about a prostitute with a devious motive. The third episode deals with the hijacking of a school bus, but an unknown man(Ram Kapoor) who is in police custody seems to be the one pulling the strings.

Strengths

The second season boasts of an ensemble cast. The makers have cast talented & renowned actors for the villain’s role in every episode. Bidita Bag is superb in her role as a devious prostitute. The first scene in the second episode where she gets an orgasm while watching a man die was one of the best scenes in the series. We wish her episode was the first one in the second season. Asha Negi who plays a news anchor & Abhay’s GF is decent. Devendar Chaudhury who plays Sandeep Awasthi has some good lines in the first episode. We wish he had more dialogues. Nidhi Singh who plays Khusboo too is decent.

Ram Kapoor manages to make an impact whenever he appears on screen. His charisma & on screen presence keeps you glued to the screen whenever he comes on screen.

Abhay is Kunal Khemu’s series. He is excellent in his role as the murderer hunting, crime solving hero-cop with darkness within. He showcases his versatility as an actor & proves yet again that he is not just an actor who can pull off comedy.

Credit must be given to director Ken Ghosh for extracting such fine performances from his team. The show boasts of a tight script. Our minds barely wandered while watching the show.

Weakness

Chunky Pandey who is known for his comic roles, is cast as a conniving cannibal in the first episode of the second season. His reputation for comedy made it difficult for us to accept him in this role. Although we did not find him lacking in his performance as such.

Verdict

Abhay 2 is gorier & better than the first season. It is a fine thriller, which you can enjoy watching at home. The ensemble cast which includes Ram Kapoor & Bidita Bag doesn’t let you down.
