Lagaan Movie All Cast And Crew

Synopsis:

"Lagaan" is a 2001 Indian epic sports drama film composed and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Amir Khan, who was also the producer, acts with Gracy Singh in the main roles; British performers Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne play the supporting roles. The movie is set in the Victorian period of India's colonial British Raj and centers around the peasants from a barren village who are burdened by high taxes levied by their rulers. They strive to convince the British officers to reduce the taxes because of poor agricultural output. Instead, a bet is proposed: if their village team wins a game of cricket against a British team, their taxes for three years would be abolished. Having accepted the challenge of the wager, the villagers are embarked on an uphill task to learn an alien game and play for an outcome that would change the destiny of their village. "Lagaan" received critical acclaim and won accolades at international film festivals and numerous Indian film awards. It became the third Indian movie to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film following "Mother India" (1957) and "Salaam Bombay!" (1988).
