Will ‘Takht’s Shooting Start in April?

The Coronavirus outbreak has bought businesses to a halt all around the world. In India, along with other businesses, the film industry is also badly hit, with the closing down of cinema halls, cancelling of film releases and halting of film shoots. Among the various film shoots that have been cancelled, Karan Johar’s Takht is the latest. The director has called off Takht’s schedule in Italy that was to begin in April 2020.

Karan Johar was to leave for Florence, Italy, in the first week of April 2020. The entire team of Takht was prepping for the film. But Karan cancelled the plan to go to Italy, as the county is one of the worst affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. Italy has been under lockdown since 9th March 2020 due to COVID-19.

Sometime back, Karan Johar had announced that all projects being produced under the banner of his Dharma Productions were suspended to minimize the risk of exposure of Coronavirus. Takht and Dostana 2’s shooting has been postponed.

Takht is a period drama set in the Mughal era, and according to sources it revolves around the story of Emperor Aurangzeb and his brother Dara Shikoh. The film boasts of a stellar star cast, including Ranveer Singh, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, Raveena Tandon and Anil Kapoor. The movie is scheduled to be released in Christmas 2021.

Talking about the film, Karan had said, ‘Takht is the most passionate piece of material that I think I will ever direct. I am obsessed with the Mughal era ever since I can remember. That’s the one part of history that I was obsessed about it in terms of its visual texture, its controversial content the political betrayal, the love, the lust, the decadence, the debauchery, the madness, the violence and everything. That era is exotic and it’s gorgeous. It is beautiful.’ Here are the five things one much know about the film.

1. Ranveer Singh is expected to play Dara Shikoh while Vicky may essay the character of Aurangzeb.2. Anil Kapoor will gain weight to play Shahjehan.
3. Takht is the story of two brothers – Dara Shikoh and Aurangzeb and their fight for the throne to Mughal Sultanate.
4. Kareena Kapoor will play their sister Jahanara Begum.
5. Work on the visual effects will take place simultaneously with the shoot to ensure that the film is not delayed.
So it doesn’t seem like the shoot will begin in April 2020. And let’s see if Karan Johar will be able to get everyone’s date to start the shooting whenever the situation is better.
