Anjana Om Kashyap, born on 12th June 1975 in Arrah, Bihar, is one of India’s leading Hindi news anchors. Known for her commanding presence and strong debating skills, she currently holds the position of Senior Executive Editor at Aaj Tak. With nearly 20 years of experience in the media industry, she has become a well-recognized personality across the country.

Early Life and Education

Anjana was raised in Ranchi, Jharkhand, and comes from a family with a defence background. Her father, Late Dr. Om Prakash Tiwari, was an officer in the Indian Armed Forces. She completed her schooling at Loreto Convent School, Ranchi, and later moved to Delhi for higher studies.

She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Botany from Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, followed by a Master’s in Social Work from the Delhi School of Social Work. Even though she wanted to be a doctor initially and gave the AIPMT, she did not succeed. She also prepared for UPSC exams twice, making it to the interview round.

Turning Point: From Social Work to Journalism
While working with NGOs, especially supporting victims of sexual violence, Anjana realized the need for a stronger media voice- an experience which led her to consider journalism. She studied for a diploma in journalism at the Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi.

Media Career

Anjana started her career in 2003 on Doordarshan with the show Aankhon Dekhi. She then joined Zee News, where she remained for five years, working as both an anchor and in editorial roles.

Soon after, in 2007, she switched over to News 24, where she rose to fame for the show Do Tuk. She earned widespread fame for the straightforward approach she used in reporting and got some time at ABP News. However, 2012 saw her shift to Aaj Tak, from where she still presents maybe, including shows like Halla Bol, Rajtilak, and Delhi Ke Dil Mein Kya Hai?

Some of her most notable coverages include the Kurukshetra Prince borewell rescue and the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape case, during which she was harassed live on camera.

Anjana is married to Mangesh Kashyap, a senior officer from the 1995 DANIPS cadre. They came to know each other during their college days. Mangesh is a retired officer of Delhi Police with the rank of Additional D.C.P. and an ex-Chief Vigilance Officer in the SDMC.
