Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma was born on January 30th, 1993, in the Mohammadpur village of the Palwal district in the state of Haryana. He was brought up in a humble and patriotic family with his parents, Shri Daya Chand, and Smt. Meera Devi, along with his four brothers and one sister.

The spirit of service to the nation had always run in the family. His two younger brothers, Kapil and Hardut, later became Agniveers in the Armed Forces, carrying forward the spirit of dedication that had been inculcated in them since childhood. His brother Vishnu provides for the family through farming, and the youngest, Pushpender, is still studying. Dinesh dreamed of becoming a soldier and serving his country from childhood, which had not changed for him on 15 September 2014, when he finally achieved that dream at 21 years old, when he was recruited into the Indian Army.

Regiment: 5 Field Regiment of the Royal Artillery

After being recruited into the Indian Army, he was placed into an artillery unit called the 5 Field Regiment of the Regiment of Artillery, which is one of the principal combat arms of the Indian Army because of the enormous amount of firepower it possesses. Artillery units provide invaluable support to infantry and armoured fighting formations and military operations through accurate, long-range, and lethal precision strikes at enemy positions.

Through years of dedicated service, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma earned the respect of his seniors and comrades alike. Known for his discipline and sincerity, he consistently upheld the highest standards expected of a soldier. His service number was 15239160M, and he steadily grew into a dependable and courageous non-commissioned officer.

On the personal front, he married Ms. Seema, and the couple was blessed with a daughter and a son. His family was a source of motivation and his greatest strength.

Operation Sindoor (Jammu & Kashmir), 7th May 2025

His unit was deployed in the Poonch Sector in Jammu & Kashmir along the Line of Control (LOC) under the command of the 16 Corps, otherwise known as the White Knights Corps, in 2025. The LOC remains one of the most volatile and sensitive borders and has witnessed many instances of ceasefire violations and infiltration attempts.

Tensions arose along the LOC when the Indian forces launched a precision strike operation – Op Sindoor – on 7th May 2025, against the enemy, resulting in heavy counter-artillery and direct fire on our forward posts, civilian areas, and against us to defend against those attacks (i.e., where he lost his mind, exacerbating an already high level of anxiety).

Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma stayed at his post amidst large amounts of enemy fire, demonstrating exceptional courage and allegiance to duty while pioneering on the potential consequences of life (i.e. remaining and performing duties) until his body was critically wounded when he could no longer contain his injuries from being killed approximately at the time of 32 years of birth when he was killed fighting as part of a terrorist force in a supporting position to support another Indian national.

The supreme sacrifice of Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar Sharma reflects the determination of the Indian Army to defend the sovereignty of India, as shown in his life and continued expression of bravery and commitment to duty, and commitment to serving the country.

He is survived by his father, Shri Daya Chand, and mother, Smt. Meera Devi, wife of Smt. Seema and his two young children. His memory continues to inspire countless others to serve the nation with honor and courage.
