Praveen's interest in sports ultimately took him to compete for India at the 1966 Commonwealth Games.

His athletic achievements also made him a Deputy Commandant in the Border Security Force (BSF), which was a testament to his discipline and commitment. His contribution to Indian sports was again recognized when he was awarded the prestigious Arjuna Award by the Government of India.

Praveen Kumar began his acting career with the 1981 film Raksha, starring alongside Jeetendra and Parveen Babi. But his role as Bhima in BR Chopra's Mahabharata catapulted him to a household name throughout the nation. His tall height and muscular build were just apt for the character of Bhima, and he became a household name. Following the success of Mahabharata, he acted in over 50 films and serials, establishing himself as a versatile actor.
Personal Life
Praveen Kumar Sobti had a wife and two children — a working son in Jet Airways and a daughter Nipunika Sobti. Even though Praveen achieved success in sports and entertainment, he encountered financial hardships in the latter part of his life. Praveen left this world on February 7, 2022, as a result of a cardiac arrest, leaving behind the love and memories of so many.
Political Career
In 2013, Praveen entered politics when he joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). He ran for the Delhi assembly elections from the Wazirpur constituency but lost. In 2014, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in an attempt to continue his political career.
