Education – From Struggles to MIT

Education was one of Srikanth’s greatest challenges. In school, he was once asked to sit at the back of the class because of his disability, but he never let discouragement stop him. He wanted to put his science studies into practice in India but faced rejection from many institutions. Not letting that stop him, he applied overseas and got into the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Sloan School of Management, thereby becoming the first visually impaired student from India at the institute. While at MIT, he studied Management Science, which would be the basis for his entrepreneurial life.

Srikanth is the founder of Bollant Industries, established in 2012 for producing some eco-friendly products, such as areca leaf plates, biodegradable packaging, and hygiene products. The unique aspect of Bollant is its employment practices: a significant portion of its workforce comprises differently-abled persons, offering them financial independence and dignity.

His vision attracted the likes of Ratan Tata for investment, which aided in rendering global visibility to the company. In addition to Bollant, Srikanth also co-founded the Surge Impact Foundation that works on the UN SDGs in India.
