First Love: Theatre
His relationship with the theatre began in 1990 at the famous Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai, where Sanjana Kapoor encouraged him in his early days. In 1993, Deshpandes Love for Stagecraft saw the formation of the ANSH Theater Group with Kay Kay Menon. The following year, Deshpande wrote and staged over 40 games, over 40 lengths and over 50 short games. With plays such as "Sir Schiller", "Maa in Transport", "Krishna-Scherz", and "Shakespearechem Matara", he brings a unique mix of surrealistism and deep self-observation. His works are traditionally rare to try and convey their topic. The audience challenges it with multi-layered philosophical stories.

He steals shows with feature films such as "Sulfarosh", "Seward", "Satya", "McDie", "Jungle", and "Darna Zarouli Hai". He holds the position as one of the most famous South Indian actors. He is particularly known for his dark expressions in the Dando Paluja series (Kannada).
