In cricket, there are some young cricketers who are assumed to be the future stars of their teams because of the kind of promise they show with their potential at some of the bigger stages. Today, young players like Shubman Gill, Cameron Green, and Harry Brooks once showed the same promise, and today these players are international stars. On the other hand, there are a few players who showed great promise but could not justify their talent at a higher level and eventually disappeared from international cricket.

Tom Banton

Tom Banton is an aggressive top-order batter from England. He made his debut for England in 2020 against South Africa. Before making his debut for England, he played in global T20 leagues, where he performed out of the box and established himself as a hitter of the ball. Dynamics batter’s performance at the domestic level brings him into international play in white ball.

Later in the year, he also got an IPL contract with RCB at the age of 21. His playing style was very similar to England’s dangerous batter Kevin Peterson, and Banton was considered the next Kevin Peterson of English cricket. In international matches, he could not convert his potential into performance, which resulted he never selected for international duties again.

Billy Stanlake

A tall express bowler from Australia burst into international cricket because of his raw pace and bounce. Making his debut at just 21 for Australia in 2017 against Pakistan, he impressed world cricket with his aggressive approach toward batters. Slowly, he cemented his place in the side and was a regular member until 2018, but a sudden dip in his bowling form resulted in his departure from the team.

Although he got some chances, he could not grab those opportunities, and finally, he dropped from the team in 2019, since he never got any chance to represent his team again.

Joshua Philippe

A dynamic wicketkeeper from western Australia who plays in the top order in the BBL for the Sydne Sixers got in the eyes of selectors when he stated open the inning for his BBL team after scoring a bag full of runs. He also got an IPL contract with RCB because of his brilliance in BBL, and later on, he was selected for international duties in 2021 against New Zealand.

He was assumed to be the successor of Steven Smith in the future because he possessed the same playing style as Steven Smith. His dipping form at international level left him out of the team, and he has never worn yellow again to date.

Here are the players who totally disappear from international cricket, even after having so much potential in the near future. These players may get a chance again for their respective sides, and I hope they justify their talent at a higher level.
