10 Best Bollywood Horror Movies In Hindi Till 2021

Best horror Bollywood movies

Bollywood is notorious for commercial cinema and masala entertainers. However, the Hindi film industry has given us many gems over the years in a variety of genres. While horror doesn’t make for the best genre of Bollywood , it does have a few movies that can keep you awake for nights and invoke your belief in spirits and curses. These movies go beyond the typically funny costumes, sounds of creaking doors, blatant jump scares, or creepy looking characters. Some movies have avoided these tropes and instead given us some intensely thrilling and scary stuff. Here are some such Bollywood horror films that are actually good-

1.1920
1920 was an unexpected success, both critical and commercial, although it employed every horror cliche one could think of. Not to mention wooden acting from the male lead. But it was a genuinely scary film, and Bollywood horror fans cannot ask no more than that. It is a haunted house story, and involved a young couple who move in a huge remote house. The trouble starts after an evil spirit begins to haunt the house and enters the body of the female lead (played ably by Adah Sharma). That is the very definition of a haunted house film, but it is really scary and currently we can ask no more than that.
2.Raaz
Written and directed by Ram Gopal Varma, Raat is a bilingual Hindi-Telegu film. This cult classic is among the best Bollywood horror movies, as it was a box office hit back then and is worth watching even now. The story of this horror film revolves around the heroine being possessed by the spirit of a cat.
3.Ek Thi Dayan
Directed by Kannan Iyer, Ek Thi Dayan was a moderate box office hit. But the story of this Bollywood horror movie is very catchy and seems very real. The film stars Emraan Hashmi, Huma Qureshi, Kalki Koechlin and Konkona Sen Sharma in the lead roles. This movie is about a Dayan(Witch) who sacrifices special humans to retain their youth and powers.

Now, how they end up getting involved in a paranormal web and how they get rid of that, for knowing that you need to watch the film.

5.Haunted 3D
Perhaps the only Bollywood horror film that got its special effects right, Haunted 3D. Yes, rest of the stuff was as hackneyed as other films, but the 3D tag was justified. It also had a relentless pace and continuous tension which made you never want to look away (except when the ghosts seemed to come out of the screen) Probably because of the visual quality, the film was unprecedentedly successful on the box office.
6.Roohi
The story starts with the montage of footage shot by an American reporter, who then is invited to shoot the village Bagadpur’s tradition – bridenapping (or as said, ‘pakdai shaadi’ in the film). Bhawra Pandey (Rajkummar Rao) and Kattani Qureshi (Varun Sharma) are professional bridenappers until they are asked to abduct Roohi (Janhvi Kapoor). The story’s central crux revolves around two of the most idiosyncratic people kidnapping a girl trapped with a mudiya-pairi (some desi kind of spirit) hunting for a body to live in forever. The problem starts when both Bhawra and Kattani fall in love with the same girl… but no, there’s a twist. That’s what the rest of the story is all about.
