DILJIT DOSANJH and ARJUN RAMPAL have been signed to play leading roles in HONEY TREHAN's next directorial after RAAT AKELI HAI which will be produced by RSVP MOVIES (Ronnie Screwvala) and MACGUFFIN PICTURES (Abhishek Chaubey and Honey Trehan).
Set in AMRITSAR, the film is based on the backdrop of 1984 SIKH RIOTS and is based on a true story where DOSANJH will play the role of an ACTIVIST who fought for the victims and unravels an unsparing account, abounding with insights and revelations, of the 1984 mass killings and their aftermath. This HUMAN DRAMA is one of many stories depicted on screen based on one of the darkest chapters in modern Indian history—the 1984 SIKH GENOCIDE that claimed the lives of almost 3000 Sikhs within a period of THREE DAYS—has been the subject of many films over the years. From Shonali Bose’s AMU (2005) and Shashi Kumar’s KAYA TARAN (2004) to Vir Das’s 31st OCTOBER and last year’s critically-acclaimed Disney+ Hotstar series 'GRAHAN', the harrowing days in Delhi during the riots have been the backdrop of many movies. Diljit himself has previously done Anurag Singh’s superhit Punjabi film 'PUNJAB 1984' (2014) based on the same subject, and is also doing a NETFLIX film with ALI ABBAS ZAFAR which is also set in Delhi amid the politically organized riots that broke out after the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31st, 1984. The details of role played by ARJUN RAMPAL in the film has been kept under wraps.
Other than this, DILJIT has already wrapped shooting of a crime comedy titled 'DETECTIVE SHERDIL', an AAZ FILMS (Ali Abbas Zafar and Himanshu Kishan Mehra) production which will mark directorial debut of Ali's long term associate RAVI CHHABRIYA. He is playing a bumbling SPY in the film which also stars BOMAN IRANI, SUMEET VYAS, DIANA PENTY and BANITA SANDHU as well. ARJUN, on the other hand, has close to SEVEN Releases including THE RAPIST, a social drama by Aparna Sen, Netflix film 'PENTHOUSE' and period drama on the battle of BHIMA KOREGAON among others.
