Gangubai Becomes Alia Bhatt's 1Oth Successful Movie of her Career
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai, starring Alia Bhatt as the protagonist, starts successfully by bringing in over 37 crores INR on its opening weekend. It seems to revive in the entire nation. The film was released on the 25th of February.
After continuing the stronghold until Monday, the box office had a small drop on its fourth day to above 45 crores INR. And on its fifth day, the total accumulation becomes over 56 crores INR, due to the Maha Shivratri holiday. Gangubai is transforming into a money-spinner at the box office, which hasn’t happened in the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Well-known film trade analyst, Taran Adarsh said, “Gangubai Kathaiwadi brought cheer and confidence back to cine-goers.” Gangubai’s success also adds to the director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s superhit filmography, keeping his success streak intact. His other successful movies include Padmaavat, Ram Leela, and Bajirao Mastani.
With Gangubai’s successful streak until now, it becomes Alia Bhatt’s 10th successful movie. By the time the movie ends its theatrical run, it is predicted that Gangubai will be tagged a “Hit” after earning over a 105 crores INR. Bhatt’s movie is receiving enormous commendation.
Gangubai’s posters have also inspired the Indian dairy brand, Amul’s latest topical. Amul is known to make striking topicals on vogue subjects. In the Amul poster, we see that the Amul girl is lounging in power which is similar to Bhatt’s character in the movie. The topical’s caption says “Khalia Bhatter”, an intended pun to the actress’ name. We know that a movie is a success when our beloved Amul recognizes and appreciates it. The recognition makes Gangubai’s success even sweeter.
Besides Alia Bhatt, the movie stars Ajay Devgn, Shantanu Maheshwari, Vijay Raaz, and Seema Pahwa. The movie is based on the book, “Mafia Queens of Mumbai” by S. Hussain Zaidi. Bhatt’s tenacious performance is the main highlight of the period film.
Alia Bhatt made her first movie debut in Karan Johar’s Student of the Year. Her other known successful films are 2 States, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Kapoor and Sons, Udta Punjab, Dear Zindagi, Raazi, Gully Boy, and Badrinath ki Dulhania. To date, Bhatt has starred in 13 films and among them the three unsuccessful films are Kalank, Shaandar, and Highway.
Imtiaz Ali’s directorial has played a huge role in shaping her to be the bona fide successful film actress that she is.
Bhatt has an enormous success ratio of 77%, making her one of the most expensive names in today’s Bollywood. That is something that not a lot of artists can boast about.
Her upcoming projects stand equally promising with SS Rajamouli’s RRR, lining up along with Brahmastra co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani with Ranveer Singh.
With her flourishing decade-old career, Bhatt seems to be triumphantly building an image as a credible actress. Now to see whether she can continue this success record in the years to come.
