Karan Johar Once Called Mahesh Bhatt a Careless Director for Causing Pain to KJo's Father

Karan Johar is one of the most successful filmmakers in B-Town, without a doubt. Apart from his many superhit films, he also has his very own show, Koffee with Karan, which has been running successfully for many seasons now. The stylish filmmaker is also seen judging reality shows like India’s Got Talent and Hunarbaaz. Be it his amazing fashion sense, his fun Instagram stories with his kids, Yash and Roohi, or the magic he creates on screen, KJo is definitely a prominent figure in the industry.

Apart from his work on films, he is also known to launch star kids under his guidance and play the role of a godfather to them. A few of the star kids launched by Karan Johar who are doing exceptionally well in the industry today are Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Ananya Pandey, and Janhvi Kapoor. KJo did not just launch these star kids through his films, but he also seemed to have a real bond with them, and always seemed to look out for them. Among these, the one that KJo is extremely fond of is Alia Bhatt. He seems to have a soft spot for her, and undoubtedly, the feelings are reciprocated by her as well. While Alia and Karan are always on perfect terms with each other, this has not always been the case with Karan Johar and Mahesh Bhatt, Alia’s father, who is another astounding director in B-Town.

Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar

There was a time when Karan Johar called Mahesh Bhatt a "careless director" for causing pain to KJo’s father, Yash Johar. He said so in an interview that dates back to 1998. Karan clearly stated how unimpressed he was with director Mahesh Bhatt for causing his father, Yash Johar, so much stress and pain. He further explained the reason behind his feelings, stating that he was disheartened to see the minimum efforts put in by director Mahesh Bhatt for their film, Duplicate. The film was produced by Dharma Productions and starred Shah Rukh Khan, Sonali Bendre, and Juhi Chawla. During the interview, Karan also stated that he had absolutely nothing to do with the film, and he deliberately stayed away from it. He further added that the film could be completed solely due to the efforts of actor Shah Rukh Khan, and if SRK had not taken charge of the film at the right time, it would never have been completed. KJo was disheartened to see his father go through so much stress and pain, all caused by the disinterest and minimum efforts put in by the director of the film, Mahesh Bhatt.

This was back in 1998 when it became kind of obvious that Karan Johar and Mahesh Bhatt were not on good terms. But, times have surely changed since the two are doing pretty well now. The reason for the present friendship may or may not be Alia Bhatt, who is loved by both of them quite dearly. Both KJo and Mahesh Bhatt are doing extraordinary things in terms of their professional careers at the moment, and have moved on from their cold war!
